Need shopping advice

I finally got my exact amount to spend and the options to buy:

5200 gp

almost everything for sale, but improvements are (at our current location) extra costly (double price)

Therefore, and also because I expect mithral to be VERY rare except for in our current location, I'm going for:

-Mithral Breastplate (4200)
-Masterwork Dwarven Waraxe(330)
-Masterwork(spikes) Spiked Shield(310)

Any last minute objections/alternatives?

It's a role-play thing... :)

The Dwarven clans we are friendly with have large amounts of items (probably spoils of war), but they distrust magic users (and thus can't make or improve items themselves)

If we want to improve items, we have to go through the black market (who will get the item to the Dwarven clan they/we are at war with, let it be enchanted, and then returned).

I think I'll wait for more opportune situations where I can have items improved against regular prices....

I can, of course, also sell my current shield and buy the bashing shield.
That would cost me a little extra, but is still within my budget.

Which makes the question: Mihtal breastplate or bashing shield...

I just can't seem to make up my mind..

For those interested, I ended up with this shopping list:

Heavy Shield +1 of Bashing + Armor Spikes 4180 (bashing dmg 1d4->2d6)
Masterwork Dwarven Waraxe 330 (dmg 1d10)
Half Plate 600 (AC+7)
Cold Iron throwing axe 16
Silvered throwing axe 28

I decided to BUY the shield of bashing, and invest in Half Plate until I get TWF (Full Plate too expensive, but Half Plate looks right for the limited amount of time I will be using it)

I just hope I will be able to lay my hands on some Mithral Breastplate later on in the campaign.

I just had one of those crazy ideas. (!)
If mithril is so rare, can't you buy some mithril ingots/bars whatever, and smith them later? (Or possibly sell some of them at higher price...since they are so rare?)

I have no clue how much mithril costs before it is smithed though...

I could but:
1. Have you looked at the Crafting Rules? I have not intention of spending several years game time crafting (nor does my DM have the intention of including that much down-time)
2. I'm afraid places where mithral is rare will also be places where they won't be able to afford it. I don't think my DM would apreciate it when I turn his heroic campaign into a mithral-trading campaign.
3. Normally, you buy the base materials at 1/3 the market price. That would in this case be about 1400 gp. However, see 1 and 2.

Not to mention, you're practically begging your DM to have them stolen from you with that plan.

Hopefully you can find the mithral breastplate again, if it really is that rare, I still think it would have ben better to get it now, but your picks were good, too.
