Need some new Anime to watch!

Record of Lodoss War. What's another take on a Basic D&D party in an epic adventure?

Ushio and Tora. I prefer the original voice actors to the dubbed versions.

Read or Die. Haven't seen the tv series but the OAV was pretty awesome (been on Adult Swim at least twice).

Castle of Cagliostro. Another Miyazaki masterpiece and supposedly one of Steven Spielberg's favorite movies.

Samurai Champloo. Similar pedigree to Cowboy Bebop.

Guyver. Almost as gory in parts as Fist of the North Star. Yeah, there were 2 live action movies too, the first having Mark Hamill but the second had some spiffy fight scenes.

X (aka X/1999) the series - An "end of the world" story involving a group of super-powered individuals fighting to determine Earth's fate. The story focuses on a mysterious young man who, apparently, will be the deciding factor in the battles. Don't pick up the movie first, as it abbreviates the story drastically and doesn't really tell the tale all that well.

Wolf's Rain - By the same animators, director and music composer (but not writers) as Cowboy Bebop. It's a somewhat post-apocalyptic story focused around a group of young men... who aren't young men at all. They're caught up in a world where the powerful rule with an iron fist, and a strange experiment has been conducted... which involves the creation of a young woman. Note that this series moves very slowly, but it's quite stylish.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - A GitS television series. It's essentially an "alternate reality" where the events of the movies never took place, and the series is closer to the original comic books. All but the last volume is out on DVD now.

Oh, come on Kesh, Wolf's Rain wasn't that slow.

Then again, I've seen .hack//sign. Glaciers move faster than that overrated thing.

I also recommend Fist of the North Star. The animation is dated, but its brutal, over the top violence and the fact that I consider it one of the best depictions of epic level god like characters outside of Dragonball make it worth seeing at least once. Its also guaranteed to be quoted like crazy at the game table.
Eh, I thought it was decidedly mediocre. If you want some unintentional funny, though - check out the live action version of the movie...

The saddest thing about the Live action Fist of the North Star movie was, you could tell they were really trying to do it right and just failed completely. The crowning moment of failure was when Kenshiro was unleashing his hundred fist of death attack. Now usually, the villian will laugh after that attack and say something to the effect of "Were you trying to tickle ME!" and then their head explodes. The sad thing about this in the Live action movie was that it DID look like he was trying to tickle the bad guy.

There is a new Fist of the North Star OVA series that got released late last year. I think it was 2 or 3 disks. It is very well done, entertaining and has body parts exploding with all the modern well animated gore you could ask for.

Macross Plus - Big thumbs up for this one.

Full Metal Alchemist - One of the best series in a long while.

The Guyver - Avoid the two live action movies. The animated series was a decent adaptation of the manga, but there is a new TV adaptation set to start airing in Japan. That sounds likely to be the best version of it yet.

Char's Counter Attack - Climax of the original Gundam Saga. Some great moments and a good soundtrack. The ending will leave you puzzled, but if you've survived Evangellion this will be a walk in the park.

Gundam 0083 :Stardust Memories - My personal favorite of the gundam series. Cool mecha and some great fights.

Helsing - Very entertaining series. Alucard is just SOO much fun. Good BGM.

Urusei Yatsura Movie #2 and #3 - Two is beautiful and dream like. One of the clasic series of Japanese anime. IMHO, origin of the "looser Boy with magical harem" genre that Tenichi Muyo, Ah! My goddess, and So many other series exploited. However, while Ataru is definitely a looser, he's not a pathetic wimp. While the magical harem does congragate around him, most of them can't stand him and pretty much every other character in the series hates him as well.

Kimagure Orange Road - A very funny and at times touching high school love triangle series. The main character Kyosuke has psychic powers as does his sisters, though they are trying to keep it a secret. Not always easy with two impulsive sisters. He falls for the "Bad Girl" Madoka Ayukawa, at school (Smokes and beats up guys), but her best friend the incredibly popular and empty headed Hikaru-chan falls for him. He really loves Madoka, but she won't hurt her friend and Hikaru really seems to love him as well.
Don't watch the movie until after watching the series. You can't appreciate it until you have watched the episodes. Once you have, though the movie is something special. No psychic powers, no wacky situations, just the heart breaking scenes of a triangle that finally has to end. Despite it being in japanese when I first watched it, I have rarely been as riveted to the screen as when watching this. You can skip the ova's though.

I agree with anyone who mentioned Fullmetal Alchemist and Rurouni Kenshin.

I'd also push Inu-Yasha - it's got a nice long story arc (still going, I think!) and good character development with plenty of humor mixed in, rare use of SD, and a girl in a schoolgirl outfit if you like that kind of thing. :D
