NeMoren's Vault

Hawk grunts in agreement, and steps into the tree filled room, staying with his back to the eastern wall north of the door.

"Yes, that sounds interesting." Anna agrees with Persephone. "Is there some kind of daylight spell working in the room with the trees, Ton?"

If the group moves into the room, Anna will examine the trees. She's most interested to know what kind will grow underground.

After waiting to see that nothing jumps from the pool or the trees onto the first people to enter the room, Enoch will examine the tapestries to see what they depict.

As Persephone enters the room, the light of the sunrod overtakes the darkness. Under closer inspection everyone notices the trees are not real, but elaborately carved metallic trees with silver trunks and golden leaves. The craftsmanship of the trees is outstanding. Clearly, elves were instrumental in the creation of these sculptures.

The pool’s stonework is so smooth that is appears to be carved from one massive block of marble. About two inches of stale water fill the pool right now. In the center of the pool, under the water, is a small concaved depression. The walls of the pool are about six inches thick. Carved around the top of the pool is the phrase, “All true life results from two components – Light & Water.”

Tapestries:
North Tapestry (10’ X 20’)
A masterpiece, this floor-to-ceiling tapestry depicts the exploits of a valiant figure performing heroic deeds. Three scenes picture him battling hordes of hobgoblins, rescuing an elven princess, and bravely carrying a bundled form through a burning forest.

East Tapestry (6’ X 8’)
This small tapestry shows the same valiant warrior kneeling in the elven throne room as the elven king presents him with a small, elaborately carved wooden box. Behind the king stands the princess from in the first tapestry. The gathered elves appear to regard the man with awe and admiration. A strange gleaming ring appears on his right hand.

South Tapestry (11’ X 15’)
This floor-to-ceiling tapestry features a scene of the same valiant figure receiving a parchment from the King. In attendance are his young wife, and two small boys.

West Tapestry (12’ X 30’)
This large tapestry completely covers the west wall. It depicts the construction of NeMoren Manor in the developing town of Weston. A valiant figure is shown watching the construction, but at this point he is an old man. He consults with a much younger man, probably one of his sons, over designs for the house.

While Enoch examines the western Tapestry, Anna notices that the tapestry seems to hang a little differently than the others. She pulls the corner of the tapestry away from the wall and sees a cutout alcove with a statue in it.

Concealed behind the western tapestry, this 5 ft.-by-5 ft room contains a marble statue of an armored warrior. He faces the doorway, his hands casually resting on the hilt of his sword, which is buried; point down, between his feet. A small plaque on the base of the statue reads, “Sir Jaycin Threefingers, Hero of the Realm.” There is also a small gold plaque mounted on the west wall behind the statue.

Eseteru speaks "Hmmm. Must be the history of how the NeMoran's got their Lordship. That heroic guy must be the ancestor of the guy who left us those keys. These tapestries should be on display in the main hall, not shuffled off into a side room.

"On the other hand... Maybe he felt he didn't live up to his heritage and couldn't bear to be reminded of it..."

"Well, we own the tapestries now, don't we?" Anna says Eseteru. "Maybe we could move them to a position of more prominence?"

She lifts up the edge of the tapestry a little higher, beckoning for Persephone to move the sunrod closer. Anna peers at the gold plaque at the back of the alcove, trying to read any text on it.

Persephone

"Wow. This is way cool. I do hope my mom is a descendent of this guy." As she walks over to the west tapestry, Persephone will lower the sunrod so it illuminates the whole pool. She vaguely thinks this light, plus the existing water, might bring something to life.

The water is 2 inches deep, but how deep is the pool?

Three fingers?, Hawk wonders.

Hawk steps to the tapestry showing the valiant figure with the ring. What hand is the ring on? Does the hand have five fingers?
He then moves to the statues and compares it with the figure in the tapestry. Does the statue have a ring in the same hand?

Ton will listen to the others describe the tapestries, the statue, and so on while remaining in the hallway with his shortbow ready. He ponders the actions of the valiant figure. He just realized that this dungeon might employ riddles in addition to traps. Being a tunnel fighter, riddles were not his specialty.

As soon as Gurter enters the room, he is immediately amazed by the beautiful tree shape metal forms, and while the others investigate the tapestries, Gurter retrieves a bit of charcoal and a piece of paper from his backpack and starts to draw a quick sketch of the trees.
