Urk. Well, ordinarily I'd be excited about this, but if they do cast Christensen in the lead role, you can forget it. He was utterly horrible in the SW prequels. :p

Actually he's gotten quite good reviews for other rolls he's been in. When you consider the heat and passion that Natalie Portman exhibited in "The Professional" vs the complete absence of any in the Star Wars Prequels, I'd have to lay most of the blame for the lame acting at Lucas's feet.

My wife and I just saw him in the Edie Sedgwick biopic Factory Girl, where he plays Bob Dylan. He's fine in the role.

OK, OK, I'll consider myself less apprehensive. Though I didn't mind Natalie Portman in the prequels (it's not her fault the dialogue was dreadful and her and Christensen had zero chemistry), and the other acting ranged from tolerable to really good (Ewan MacGregor and Ian McDiarmid, mainly). It was mostly Christensen that gave me a feeling of "Bleargh".

Oh, there's no shortage of things to be concerned about with a movie of a Gibson novel. A lot of what made them so good was the prose and prose style he uses to convey the feeling of the world and translating something like that to screen is extremely difficult. Given that the only other film by the director was the horribly reviewed Torque, it's not an especially hopeful sign. On the other hand he is mainly a director of music videos and they are all about visual style.

Watch him in something like Shattered Glass. He's not a bad actor. He's just prone to bad direction.
