Neutral clerics and Summon Monster

I have a true Neutral cleric of Grumbar (FR). Grumbar is a neutral god of earth elementals. I have chosen for this cleric to turn undead instead of rebuke and to spontaneously cast cure spells instead of inflict.

According to the PHB p.32, it states the following:

A cleric can’t cast spells of an alignment opposed to his own or to his deity’s. For example, a good cleric or a neutral cleric of a good deity cannot cast evil spells. Spells associated with the alignments of chaos, evil, good, and law are identified as such on the “School, Subschool and Descriptors” line of the spell description.

Can a neutral cleric of a neutral diety cast any summon monster in the list without restriction?

Yep, but your god may not like it if you summon certain types of creatures (like maybe air creatures).

Good point. Interestingly enough, we have an air genasi rogue in the party, but they keep out of each other's way. I wonder what the air genasi will think once the cleric starts summoning earth elementals?

Especially in that case, I'd say nothing against any alignment. The Elemental Lords are known to be distant and care not much for their mortal worshipers. But you sure incur his wrath if you summon an aerial creature (and it might well not work, or even turn on you!)

get MotP(or is it on the srd now?) and look for the earth template, most fitting for your cleric methinks :)

Good idea...

If your dm is open to the 'summoning specific creatures' variant in the dmg you might even be able to get some half-elementals or something!

Can you tell me where this template is in MotP?

edit --- nevermind, found it :)

Thanks.

Do what I did for my Kossuthian Cleric, and make him up a new Summon Monster List. One of the most recent Dragon Magazines explains how to do so.

I'd include Xorn, Earth Elementals, Earth-Oriented Paraelementals, Earth-Oriented Mephits, and apply the Elemental (Earth) Template to Animals and Dire Animals to flesh out the list.

Good idea. There's also a web page I have a link to at home that gives stat blocks to the creatures from the summon monster list in the PHB.
