New 300 trailer

I probably won't like it personally - I thought Sin City was laughably bad (except the Mickey Rourke story, which was mostly okay), but the trailer looks pretty cool.

Also really overlooks that fact that it wasn't just 300 Spartans - 700 Thespians stayed to fight with them. Not exactly fair to leave them out - they were just as brave in this instance, staying to fight and die while the other Greeks fled.

That is not left out of the movie. It's in there.

I'll probably see it too... but... a war rhino?! Come on!! Was there ever any time in reality that someone had war rhinos? AFAIK, you can't domesticate them...

They do not appear all that domesticated in the movie. Sort of a vaguely aim towards the general direction of the enemy and shoot...and hope it doesn't turn back on your own lines.

But it seems to perfectly match the lanscapes from the comic, as I remember them i.e. I didn't do a side by side comparison, so I shall avoid a more definitive comparison.

I never read the comic, but I saw some website comparing scene's from the movie to the comic and they were really close.

It's just not emphasized in the trailers.

In the graphic novel, the Spartan King arrives with his 300 and proceeds to take charge of the meager Greek forces massing at the Thermopylae.

Leonidas: I'll take command. I have more soldiers.

Greek Dude: You have 300 men. I have 1000.

Leonidas (turning to a follower of Greek Dude): You, Greek 01. What's your profession?

Greek 01: I'm a farmer, my lord.

Leonidas: And you, Greek 02?

Greek 02: I'm a herder, my lord.

Leonidas (turning to his men): SPARTANS! WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSION?

Spartans raise their spears as one.

Leonidas (turning to Greek Dude): I have more soldiers.

That scene, virtually word for word, is in the movie.

But you can buy them in the Arms & Equipment Guide, and in one game I play in, a PC rides a war rhino.

It has 'horseshoes' of speed, and has a +20 Jump check.

I'm confident this movie will be excellent.

it may be cool, but after watching a trailer during heroes last week I'm ready to toss out much of the historical accuracy.

there was something about the Spartan King giving a speech on freedom ... kind of hypocritical considering the majority of Sparta's population was slaves.

I'll still watch though! ... as long as we don't have super-elf's elephant boarding and stealing the show!

(and I loved legolas in the books)

Legolas was a show-off, when poor Eomer killed TWO oliphaunts with ONE spear!

Sorry for the threadjack, carry on.

rhinos have a problem in that they don't have a lot of stamina... push them too hard, and they'll literally drop dead.... considering that ancient Persians didn't have access to modern tranquilizers, one wonder how they got all that gear on it....
