New D&D In-Store Play Program

Rumor has it that players will also be able to purchase special hats at each game. You can decorate your hats and some hats will be rare, so you can trade them with your friends!

Thanx for the link OnlineDM.

I just hate the broad speculation people are putting on the need of these cards with reguards to DDE, LFR or this "Dungeon Delve" program. My local gaming store is feeling a bit tweaked because they are hearing/reading that such rumors. They want to sell items people what they want, but not have to pimp products for certian events.

Back on topic. I do like this idea. It is another event that brings people to gaming stores. Pride is a driving force. People play Magic, Warhammer, or even Chess just for the right to say "I beat you" or "I accomplished the goal." And in the end, its for fun!

I bet they want to make money, too!

As people have asked elsewhere, what is the difference between requiring players at a certain kind of event to buy cards, versus just having them pay x dollars to play? The first way, well, at least you still have the cards when the game is over.

Is it really WotC being evil, or maybe responding to some FLGS request/feedback from the Encounters program. Regular players may not buy a book every week they come to Encounters. It's nice if WotC provides a product that is specifically geared for the program they are running. "Fortune Cards" seems to fit that bill.

Also, this does indeed sound like the Ultimate Dungeon Delve events that have been run at GenCon and PAX in the past. I think it's an awesome idea. I didn't get to play those, so I'd love to have a chance to play. Also, this program can be scheduled for whenever the store has time. Sounds like more response from feedback.

So let's see. Games stores ask for a low price point product to support their in-store initiatives. People who participated really enjoyed the UDD program at cons. Players and Stores wished they could schedule the game night themselves, since Wednesdays may have conflicts. So, WotC collects feedback, and designs a new program addresses all that feedback to provide an enjoyable experience.

... and ENWorld will have bitchy posts about it. Sounds about right.

I don't want D&D Fortune Cards. I want D&D Fortune Cookies!

"You should have taken a different feat."

"Sometimes a polearm is just a polearm."

"You will be eaten by a Grue."

Had I been drinking anything when I read this post, I would have had to do a spit take to keep it from running out my nose.

Alas, I have no XP to give right now or it would be yours.

I would actually pay for D&D Fortune Cookies. If they can make D&D soda, this should be easy enough to pull off.

That is awesome. I'm tempted to have some made. I did a quick search and found a couple of sites that do custome fortune cookies.
