New D&D movie?

Besides, they could have worked on the first movie for 5 years and it wouldn't have been any better.

Not if Jeremy Irons was still in it. Without him it would have at least been tolerable, with him it i wouldn't even be able to stomach watching it mocked on MST3K.

I can't blame him for anything bad with the film. Wasn't his fault that all the parts sucked. He obviously knew the movie was going to be crap and overacted like a madman. It's easier to deflect criticism that way. :)

I was just shocked that the movie had 2.5 quality actors and was still terrible...

Well I blame him for his bad acting, which was so bad I had to not watch every scene he was in.

There were 2.5 quality actors?

Ya know, Irons might have done a dozen takes for each scene, eleven acceptable and one over-the-top, and in the end Solomon decides what makes it to the film. I wouldn't be so quick to place the blame on a professional actor with over three decades of experience for the final cut of that... (...really hard to post this...) ...film.

I will see this new movie. I hated the first. It was like a long, slow leak all over my adolescent years. But I will see this new movie. I must. It has "Dungeons & Dragons" in the title.

I am such a tool.
Me too. :( I could start ranting about how I'm not going to see it, but the sad truth is that I will and I'll probably even book the tickets in advance, just in case.

I'll guess he means Irons, Payne and either Whalin or Birch, though I'd substitute Baker for either of the last two. I think Payne's performance suffered the same fate as Irons' performance and wound up on the cutting room floor.

Irons (who is proven), Birch (who is up and coming) and ....WAYANS!!! ;)

* Considering this is the only movie where a Wayans will upstage Jeremy Irons that means something. :p

* Footnote: Everyone, please take in to account that this movie was pure crap to me. The only thing that really entertained me was the cute mage-chick and some of the Wayans dude's antics. Other than that it was embarrassing in general and only good for mocking for a laugh.

* throws in a * Dude! You can't blame any actor in that film. The story and all the characters were horrible. If they was a decent script in place they may have had something to work with. Plus, Mark makes a good point about editing. Irons had no control over which of his takes made the final film. You can tell he was hamming it up on purpose in every one of his scenes.

On a final note: I can't believe I am in any way defending this film. Damn my Devil's Advocate side. :)

Re

That first movie was such utter garbage that I wish they wouldn't even call another movie a sequel. I'd rather see them attempt to sweep that mess of a movie under the carpet and act as though it did not even exist. I wouldn't even want an association with that other movie.

I hope they use the FR rather than Greyhawk for a new movie. I don't want an over the top story involving controlling dragons. I cannot emphasize enough how disgusted I was with that first movie. A sensible, well-written adventure story would be much more entertaining.

Don't put a Wayans brother in it. They do some great comedy, but they are not good actors.

Where did you get that Joel Schumacher is directing?

I didn't. I meant that Schumacher created the awe-inspiring crapsticle that was Batman and Robin, and everyone hated him for it. But he'd also made some films people liked. Just going to show, therefore, that this film has a chance to be OK.
