I played an Oath of the Ancients paladin and sometimes I used Misty Step. Sometimes. That was it.

Conversely, my current Oath of the Watchers pally has used (as far as I remember) alarm, bless, command, find steed, lesser restoration, zone of truth, remove curse, banishment and find greater steed. Many of them quite frequently, actually, and with plenty of spell slots available for a good number of smites when necessary.

I never had an issue with a paladin nova. Use all your smites up in the first fight or two and you are just a bad fighter in the rest.

Okay. But is "be different for the sake of being different" a design goal of WoTC?

Since they tried all classes being identical, yes.

A big reason the attacker rolls for weapons, and the defense rolls for spells, is to make them feel different.

Find Steed scales by spell level. So just upcast it to get a greater flying steed.

That's not my point, my point is if I cast Find Steed and then later Greater Find Steed, what happens? I'm curious about the interactions of the two spells.

I think it might of been removed.

But otherwise, you get 2 different steeds. And presumably can only ride one at a time.

I would assume it has the same language as the current spell. You can only have one bonded steed at a time.

There is a prevailing attitude that, when an official change is made to a rules widget, the assumption is that the new version is always better and should be used. My feeling is simply that new and better are not necessarily the same.

You are of course welcome to disagree with any of that, but IME this is how a lot of people think.

There are also a lot of people who are resistant to change and eye anything new with suspicion at best and derision at worst, regardless of whether the new thing is ultimately "better" or not.
