New monster damage expressions - What do they mean for the game?

Only that now your DM can use enemies 2 or 3 levels lower which don´t hit as often but do more damage and less hp.

This will cause combats to be more exiting, because its not autohit with low damage. HP of monsters will be lower, so the fight will be over a little bit faster. You will just get some less xp. But this may also be not a bug, but a feature, since previously leveling up was extreme fast, when combats usually were level+1 or level+2...

Well, the people in the game I play in are casual gamers - Level+0 challenges already were challenging - now they are going to be murderous. The rules updates weren't made to account for those type of gamers. They were made for the gamers I have in the game I run. I expect the number of dead PCs will ramp up quickly.

I've been trying the MM3 monsters. I've thrown out my "half-hitpoints, but extra 5 damage per tier" houserule, and all seems well. The monsters are more of a credible threat now, less of this "10 damage at level 30" crap.

We havve started to test MM# monsters in our face to face befoe we go to DArk S_Un in a month or so.

Thus far we are getting our fannies lightly patted by the monsters.,

Or actully, not light at all.

Now, Come and Get It is meaning the fighter is the one getting it, not the monsters. He does his damage and then the next round he gets pounded into the sand. He has to be sure he is fully healed at the end of that round or risk going down, or worse.

It is a good change though. Equal level fights are still not terribly difficult, but are no longer cakewalks nad +2 level fights are scary, and our groups's tactics need to improve.

It's quite beautiful isn't it? That power was basically instant lockdown, but now with the higher damage and combined with the unconscious ruling on marks, it can be very easy to drop a fighter then move away.

What repercussions? It's a bloody game. Worst thing that can happen is that the party is wiped and that they have to make new characters. Not the worst thing in the world that could happen.

Some people create a lot of story for their PCs, especially if they have played them for several levels. This can be a blow if they die because the DM was testing out new math.

Use lower level encounters...

now you get: better damage/hp ration on monsters --> more exiting combats!

D&D is not a video-game. Talk to your DM if you feel this is an issue. If he made a mistake and caused a wipe or death solely because he increased the damage level, he should fix his mistake. Any DM worth his salt will take it easy and test the waters before throwing everything he has got at his players.
