D&D (2024) New One D&D Playtest Document: 77 Pages, 7 Classes, & More!

There's a brand new playtest document for the new (version/edition/update) of Dungeons of Dragons available for download! This one is an enormous 77 pages and includes classes, spells, feats, and weapons.

In this new Unearthed Arcana document for the 2024 Core Rulebooks, we explore material designed for the next version of the Player’s Handbook. This playtest document presents updated rules on seven classes: Bard, Cleric, Druid, Monk, Paladin, Ranger, and Rogue. This document also presents multiple subclasses for each of those classes, new Spells, revisions to existing Spells and Spell Lists, and several revised Feats. You will also find an updated rules glossary that supercedes the glossary of any previous playtest document.

It's been a minute, but IIRC, the Next playtest did some things that designers didn't expect and did make 5e more radical than originally intended. Bounded accuracy and making a simpler version were there at the start, but they ended up going further than had been the plan.

Advantage/Disadvantage was just a kooky idea they threw out there bot expecting much and found that people loved it.

I haven't seen enough new stuff that wouldn't be better off in a single players option book. And I really dont think I need to buy the same monster manual again for even more money. They should have had market prices for magic items in the og 5e dmg. Some of this playtest has shown promise but for another 250 bucks?
Then, don't...? The main audience is new players. The new DMG sounds pretty hot, though.

Let's also not forget that even if WotC did decide to go hog-wild on all new kinds of things for 5E24 that didn't fall within the 70+% paradigm... changes are darned good that even the people who wanted WotC to "take risks" wouldn't end up liking the stuff WotC made then either.

A completely new 5E24 (or "6E") would still result in most of the people here still complaining about what was made because it wouldn't be 100% exactly what they wanted.

wanted.
if they had not backtracked on anything and refined what scored ‘low’ ( > 50, < 70), I would be a lot happier than with them throwing all changes overboard that exceed what a Tasha’s could / would do

🤷 Just because you'd like more than what we have now, doesn't mean you'd actually be happy with the end result.
