I agree, I think there’s room for humour in Trek, but I don’t want to see something approaching Lower Decks turned into a film. I thought the filmmakers had a good balance of fun, action, and drama with Homecoming. Hmmm… the thought they could make their Trek movie too silly now has me a little concerned.

I'm excited, I just wish I knew for what.

It's not Kelvin, it doesn't sound like a film outing for any established television cast. So another reboot? Or an original ensemble of characters?

The filmmakers definitely succeeded on making an ensemble of original characters work in an established setting for Honor Among Thieves, so I am more positive about that possibility than I would be with it in other hands.

I'm not sure I want Star Trek to be a flat-out comedy, though. It worked for D&D (which had a choice--be LotR or a comedy) but I don't want mainstream Trek to be that.

I think that Spider-Man: Homecoming was a good mix of serious and comedy, though - anyone who can make the Vulture into a serious villain earns a little leeway.

So, Trek that contains comedy, but isn't just comedy, is a goodly possibility.

I wonder if they are aiming for something like Peter David's New Frontier -- something deeply rooted in the universe but not beholden to the original cast or other encumbrances.

Maybe with Picard S3 being it's last, they'll finally do something in the "present" and advance the ST universe along.
