Then why play this game (meaning this parsing of the rule here on the board)? Why harp on what they wrote or didn't write? If we are both in agreement that the rule is written poorly, and no one would want to implement it in their game, why deny someone their interpretation or parsing of the rule?
Interpreting what they wrote is different from changing what they wrote into some other way to enact hiding. What you are proposing(and how I think all of us here will do things) isn't an interpretation of the 2024 hide rules. We're house ruling it into a completely different rule.

There are at least two things going on in this thread, the major two are, 1) discussing what they wrote and what it means, and 2) how we will change it to make sense. Number 1 is what the vast majority of the discussion in this thread is about, including the OP.

If you are hiding, you are "invisible" until you are seen. Magical invisibility is not the same as hiding. I can somehow see you just by seeing you if you are out in the open. If you are magically invisible, then I cannot see you out in the open, but need something like Truesight or See Invisibility.

So it’s like Invisible Boy in Mystery Men. He’s only invisible when no one is looking at him.

Having a condition called "invisible" that does not include, as part of its effects, being invisible, is a pretty big design failure.
Invisible (Adjetive)
  1. not visible; not perceptible by the eye:
    invisible fluid.
  2. withdrawn from or out of sight; hidden:
    an invisible seam.

It absolutely fits the definition of invisible. You are invisible until you are visible, either because they search for you and percieve where you are behind cover, or because you walk in front of their face.

I maintain that JC should not have been put as design lead for d&d24. His obsession with RAW minutia per the sage advice twitter pushed 5e away from its design intent and made the system worse. Now d&d24 is written with RAW minutia in mind - and still has significant problems and things that don't work.
I had hoped having had to deal with this for years he would try to write clear rules, not double down on the RAW nonsense

Very well. I think they wrote a paradox.

You cannot possibly believe in good faith that invisible is meant to be interpreted "no one is looking at you at the moment" and not "you are naughty word invisible"
