New Striker class in progress - seeking feedback on mechanics

Been thinking about how the PHB strikers work, and wondering about new ways to set bonus damage conditions.
Here's something I came up with (this is intended to fit into a larger class concept I have, but I want to discuss this particular mechanic first). Two class features for this class:

Savage Ire
When an enemy attacks you, you may choose to become marked by that enemy as a free action. (You take the normal -2 penalty for attacking other creatures as a result.)

Deadly Focus
Once per round, when you attack and hit an enemy that you're marked by, you can deal extra damage to that enemy. You decide whether to apply the extra damage after making the damage roll. As you advance in level, your extra damage increases.
Level 1-10: +1d10
Level 11-20: +2d10
Level 21-30: +3d10

Aside from the conceptual goofiness of forcing enemies to inflict a status condition on you, does this seem mechanically sound?

That's a very interesting concept. It could theoretically be abused to weasel out of an unwanted mark, but since they have to attack you first, I don't see it as much of a problem.

The weaseling out of an unwanted mark is actually as intended - the flipside of that means that a monster with a marking power can distract you from the target you intended to go after.

It's a bit defenderish, but there's no benefit to being attacked more than once or by more than one enemy, so you don't want to draw too much attention from your foes, unlike a true defender which wants all the attention it can get. Like the warlock, it requires striking a balance between being up close and personal, and not getting too overwhelmed. It's admittedly somewhat of a hybrid class I have planned, but at its core it's currently somewhat like a melee warlock - I'll be looking to both the rogue and warlock for inspiration for the powers.
