WB animation is remaking the Thundercats as an animated TV series.
The animation style is whimsical, Americanized-anime, along the lines of Teen Titans.
The setting is modern-day Earth, in a major city (possibly LA)
The Thundercats are all teenagers.
Their leader is Snarf (!) who is now a mystic with a "third" eye.
Each of the Thundercats has a weapon with an "Eye of Thunderra" and transformative powers (not just Lion-O)
When they aren't fighting evil, the Thundercats play together as a rock band. That's not a typo, or a joke. They are rockin' cats in their present form.
Mum-Ra now has wings.
And I bet he laughs a bit more than he used to =P

They might even change the name of the show to ThunderBratz!

Arrgh! That is terrible. Just goes to show you that there are a lot of wacked people in Hollywood.

And they all need to be hit with a truck.

Make that a big truck.

No, make that a very big truck.

*reads AICN article*

Scratch that. Time to break out the orbital-based weaponry.

Sighs. More bastardized anime from Americanos. :\

Would you guys from the mainland please go and corrupt some other country's artworks, preferably east of the Atlantic seaboard, like All Things French?

I'm just not buying it. The fans of the original show are now in their 30s. None of the changes look like they're made to capitalize on that demographic, which would be bad marketing in my opinion. I mean, if the DVD sales are that strong, wouldn't it make more sense to make more of the same? Or at least the same story with updated art and the latest in animation techniques?

I think someone's messin' with us. This would be the perfect way to tank a show before its release by urinating on the nostalgia of the likely audience.

It sounds like they're bastardizing Thundercats more than anime. :(

The problem I have is that the premise behind Thudercats was actually kind of cool. Sure there was some silly stuff about it, but at the time it was considered a kids show. Still is, I imagine. But the backstory was Arthurian, Shakespearean, and Kryptonian all in one. If anything, you'd think they'd take it and run in a more adult-friendly direction. Some suggestions:

  • Make the Mutants more threatening and less bumbling.
  • Make Snarf more of a foil for Jaga: Jaga is supposed to make Lion-O a king, Snarf was all about making him an adult. He can be comical, but he can also serve a story purpose.
  • Deeper backstory and an overarching plot.
  • Fewer, but more developed nemeses.
  • Less Berbils. NO Sheeple. More remnants of 1st and 2nd Earth (Thundarr?).

Just a few things to appease the original fans without killing the soul of Thundercats.
