I saw an interview with the main young man character, I think it was Jimmy Fallon, where he said he had just finished filming (I think) the 5th or 7th episode and he said it still wasn't revealed yet what "The Event" was. The actors were being kept in the dark on what it was.

Hard to say the revealed some things but nothing was called the Event. I think the Event will be millions of people turning the channel.

. The prisoners refuse to say who they are, but the government assumes they are.

And Lost played a much different game with the time jumps. Lost told two parallel stories in two timelines (or planes of existence), while The Event uses them as info dumps.
