This is just a off my head right now prototype soo

The (enter name that has to do with staff here)

(I'm not one for big flowery descriptions so this is a spellcaster that uses a staff)

Prereques:
Ability to cast spells of lv 3 or higher
Skills: Spellcraft 8 ranks
Knowledge (arcana, or religion (arcane or divine spellcaster)) 8 ranks
Craft (Staffs) 2 ranks
Feats: Weapon proficiency (any staff)

Hit die: d6
Skills: 2 + int modifier per level (skills as wizard)
BAB: as wizard
Saves:low fort, low ref, high will

Level Special
1 Bond with staff, Empowered staff +1
2 Staff upgrade
3 Empowered staff +2
4 Staff upgrade
5 Empowered staff +3
6 Staff upgrade
7 Empowered Staff +4
8 Staff upgrade
9 Empowered Staff +5
10 Staff upgrade

Bond with staff: At first level the (enter prestige class' name here) may take one full day to bond a staff. This staff now becomes the special staff through which he uses all the special abilities of the (enter prestige class' name here) class. This staff has resistance to all types of energy 10, and the (enter prestige class' name here) can only have one staff bonded to him at a time. If the staff is destroyed the (enter prestige class' name here) losses experience equal to what a wizard would lose because of the loss of his familiar.

Empowered staff: At first level the (enter prestige class' name here) gets a +1 bonus to all of his bonded staves. This bonus increases to +2 at 3rd level, +3 at 5th level, etc.

Staff upgrade: At 2nd level and every 2 levels thereafter, the (enter prestige class' name here) gets a ability that adds to all of his bonded staves.

force pole: By using a spell slot, the (enter prestige class' name here) can extend his staff by 10ft. per spell level used (this is force enegy that just lookcs like a staff, therefore it doesn't way anything) This can be used to make a bull rush with a +15 bonus.

Flame thrower: By using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the character can shoot a cone (or line) of any energy type. The cone is 15ft. long, and the line is 45 ft. long and 5ft. wide. It deals 1d8 damage per caster level. A reflex save can be attempted for half damage. The save is equal to what a normal save would be for whichever spell slot was used.

more, but I can't think of em right now.

What are your thoughts about this?

Well, craft staffs would actually be more like craft wooden objects, or since it is a weapon weaponsmithing. However, that doesn't seem to fir the class as well as Craft Staff, the item creation feat.

Why are skills like a Wizard? Since the class is open to any spellcaster, I think the skill set should be a little more unique.

A plus to what?

What are your thoughts about this?

Interesting idea. You might steal some ideas from magical staves. Have a way for it to increase melee damage, or have improvments on melee fighting with it.

I like the idea, but it needs a lot of clarification. Like f'rinstance, do they get more spellcasting power as they advance? What are the staff upgrades, exactly? And what's the empower staff ability apply to?

I'd suggest every other level gaining a spellcasting level. Maybe have the staff's empowerment go down to +1 per 3 levels, and have it apply to the DCs of spells cast through it; have it replace normal material components for spells cast through it (call this ability Spellstaff); replace the upgrade staff with specific bonuses (maybe increase the range of spells cast through it, give it hardness 10, etc.)

oops

i forgot the spell casting advancement. It's +1 every level.

And for skills... The Wizard makes sense. Adding and taking away a few skills might be needed, but...

And for the craft coment, was that there to be annoying. I don't care what its called, just the ability to make a staff.
