NFL: Week 11

Can't it be argued with the state of the NFC right now, that all their teams have a soft schedule?

Not to the degree the Falcons do, mostly because the NFC South is so bad, and the cross-divisions they play this year (the AFC West and NFC West) aren't very strong either (the AFC West is pretty average, with two good teams and two bad teams; the NFC West has two inconsistent above average teams, a below average team, and the second-worst team in the league). Then they've got a third-place schedule, so their other two games are against the Giants and Lions.

Well, the phillies won- not the easy win they had been suggesting however. Good to see them have to struggle on a few games :)

Congrats to any Seahawks fans- wasn't sure they were going to pull that one off! :-P

Jeesh, the Texans are a team all of a sudden! If Pretty Boy Floyd (Carr) stays consistent as QB how good do you think they'll be in a couple years?

THe Texans have been improving nicely over the past few years.

I just thank gawd they didn't decide to display that improvement in the 4th quarter last night.

What scares me even more, for the sake of my beloved Packers, is the injury situation at running back / fullback. By the end of the game last night, 4 of their 6 backs (Green, Davenport, Williams, Lachey) were hurt. Hope we can get a few of them back for Monday night.

I don't care which one of them would win. I was just stating that out of the games shown on Fox at 4pm, I would have rather been watching Atlanta play.

I woulda rather watched the Giants game than either Philly or Atlanta.... I was kinda interested in seeing what Eli Manning could do when he's finally given his chance..... I guess Kurt Warner <bleeped> up badly last week....... :\

It was good to see the Panthers finally doin' some major ass kicking! :D  They needed to! I guess the reserve guys finally found a bit o' cohesion to actually win some games..... alas too late for any hope of playoffs.... so much for that. :(

The AFC West appears average because half their games are against other AFC West teams. :p

Right now it looks like the lead in the AFC West will be decided next Sunday. This Sunday San Diego visits Kansas City, the next week Denver comes to town. If things go right for San Diego and Denver one team will be 9 and 4 with the other eight and five. It's entirely possible for both to end up 11 and five at the end of the season, but not likely.

OTOH, Oakland has disappointed everybody. Especially Oakland. It's not the team it used to be, and it'll be awhile before it gets back. But don't count them out in the coming years.

AFC North is sort of the same way. Cleveland and Cincy play good but they just can't seem to win.....

AFC East also has the Bills and Miami as bad teams so they are also that way....

One of the by-products of an eight-division system is that only six of a team's 16 games each year are against division opponents.

The Bills are a good team, they just have a bad record. :p Although, frankly, 4-6 isn't as bad as I was afraid it would be.

One way to gauge the relative strengths of the divisions is to total up the records of all the teams in the division. The intra-division games cancel out, and you get to see how the division as a whole does against the others.

AFC East is +2 (2 games over 0.500)
AFC North is +6 (they were the worst last year)
AFC South is +2
AFC West is Even
NFC East is Even
NFC North is Even
NFC South is -2
NFC West is -8

It quickly becomes obvious where the stinkers are :D No division in the NFC is above 0.500, while three of four AFC divisions are.
