NG vs. N: Neutral Good Victorious!

Autumn continues to pull in reinforcements while Peter and Greyshadow pile on for the attack.

In order of actions:
Peter: Full Attack on Boney, attempt grapple on claw hit (as noted in prior post already resolved)
Greyshadow: Charge Attack on Boney.
Autumn: SLA - Summon Nature's Ally IV started up

(OOC: So can I even defer saying what kind of creature I'm summoning, as well as its location? If not, this is going to be a
Juvenile Arrowhawk
at +40Z over Boney's head)

That's right. Per the rules on Casting Time: "You make all pertinent decisions about a spell (range, target, area, effect, version, and so forth) when the spell comes into effect." The spell does not come into effect until the beginning of your turn next round. For instance, if your opponent starts flying away while you're casting, you could decide on an arrowhawk instead of the polar bear. Or, if he casts resist energy (fire), you might choose something other than a fire elemental. The most important thing about this though is location. Without this rule, sleep (e.g.) would be totally useless (it's already over-nerfed IMO).

The arrowhawk cannot appear where you want it, because the range is only 45 feet.

Greyshadow misses with his charging swipe (rolled 20+2+2+2=26).

Round 559

Boney heals up to 48 HP. Boney skewers Peter with both horns and bites him, as well, for a total of 40 points of damage. Peter succombs to the poison from each horn (16, 22 Fort saves), taking 4 points of Dexterity and 5 points of Strength damage. Peter has 34 HP, 9 Dex, and 22 Str. The horns are embedded in Peter.

Peter claws Boney once (rolled 25+2=27) for 14 points of damage, but Boney is too big to grab. Boney has 34 HP remaining.

What about Greyshadow and Autumn?

Aria the arrowhawk will appear over Autumn's head instead, then swoop forward to be above Boney's head. Greyshadow is certainly dismayed by being unable to pierce Boney's armor, but tries to bash at the thing's legs to throw it off balance and make it easier for Pete to get in there.

Aria: MEA to 60N40E40Z, Std: zap Boney with ray attack
Peter: Full Attack on Boney
Greyshadow: Use Aid Another to help with Peter's attacks.
Autumn: Begins another Summon Nature's Ally, sacrificing her Freedom of Movement spell.

I do not remember what Peter's rolls were, except for the roll that hit. I will roll randomly between 1 and just under what Peter would have hit with to see if Greyshadow made a difference. Under normal circumstances that would be a complicated trick that Greyshadow is doing, but I will allow that to be one of his tricks. From now on I will not take the summoned creatures actions ahead of time.

Greyshadow made a difference (rolled 17 on attack roll), so Peter managed to also bite Boney for 8 more points of damage.

Aria misses with its ray (14-4=10 ranged touch).

Round 560

Boney bites Peter, and jostles him with its horns, for a total of 32 points of damage. Peter has 2 HP remaining. Boney heals up to 31 HP.

OOC: And you complained about multiple fog clouds. :p

Summoned monsters only last a few rounds. :p I will concede that fog clouds do not move around, but it could be worse. It could be a bunch of summoned rilmani, which I had to keep track of all the spells they used. :\

Autumn completes her summoning with the appearance of Boris the Brown Bear at 70N40E.

Boris (70N40E): Full Attack
Peter (60N50E): Full Attack
Greyshadow (60N30E): Assist Peter's attack
Aria (60N40E+40Z): Hover and Attack with electricity ray
Autumn (60N15E): Summon Nature's Ally IV, sacrificing Dispel Magic.

OOC:
* I hope adding the locations each time may help both of us (and the observers) keep track of all of this.
* I'm curious why Aria's attack was 14-4 instead of 14+9. There isn't a range increment for it listed in the SRD. If there is one in the source material, then she'll drift down to +20Z to eliminate it.
* Yes, the good news is that most of the creatures on the Summon Nature's Ally are pretty straight-forward, though I am still considering a unicorn...

OOC: Adding the locations helps a lot. Thank you.

When Gansk and I report the result of a d20, the bonus given in their stat block is already included. Any adjustments we report are for any conditions that are not included in the stat block. In the case of Aria, I rolled a 5 on a d20, so the 14 includes the +9 attack bonus. The -4 is because Aria was using a ranged attack against an enemy that was threatened by allies. All of the bonespears squares were threatened, so the -4 applied.

Greyshadow effectively assists Peter (rolled 22).
Peter claws and bites the bonespear for 24 points of damage.
Boris the spider, I mean bear, claws for 12 points of damage.
Aria zaps for 5 points of damage. Boney is at -8 HP, and dying.

Round 561

Boney's horns inflict 21 points of damage to Peter, who disappears. Boney's horns damaged Peter, but Boney did not take any action, so Boney disappears.

A gargantuan reptile thunders into the arena to 50N80E. It has a very long neck and tail, a massive body, spines covering its back, and a relatively small head. Autumn does not recognize the beast.

OOC: Aha! Another learner (or one that I should have remembered on the ranged-attack into combat)
Whew. And now for something new and different!
Gargantuan?! Eeep!

(move coming once I figure out how big that really is and what everyone should do.)
