Nostalgic in a good way? This seems like an argument/discussion I would not enjoy with the extreme focus on trying to parse the obscure RAW, and there is still no definitive resolution. Not much has changed, really.

This thread rightly died 9 years ago, only months into the run of the game, because the bad rule was simply fixed.

It also displays the 3.x/d20-era tendency of rules-parsing from barely-related passages in different sections of the book mainly because folks hadn't acclimated to 'exception based design' yet. How the power worked was perfectly clear. That it was bad was perfectly clear. So it was fixed.

That's not how it'd likely play out, today.
 

The 4e Night Hag was updated though, and the ability in question became a save ends effect.
