Sushi...is it in or out? Its not in or out...its just food that people have been eating for years.

Sushi? That's soooo late ninties :D

Sure, Ninja have been around in Japan for quite a while, but their moment in the spotlight as far as western consciousness is concerned was the eighties. Hence, the "So 80's" comment and the numerous posts that they make sense in an oriental setting.

Oh I understand what they meant by the 80's comment, but just wanted to remark on this odd habit of Americans do this. Kind of trivializes other cultures.

It never bothered me until one day I wanted to eat sushi or something and someone made that remark about that. Kind of floored me...I mean its just FOOD...why should I let a fashion trend dictate my appetite?

Surely you see the humor in such a response. Not that it is "so 80's" but that someone would actually care about a trend enough to make that remark even if it is in jest. (if they're really serious...uh I'd be worried) ;)

hmm

Isn't it amazing how people can take something from another culture who's had it for thousands of years...call it fashionable for a decade or so...then suddently call it unfashionable?

Is it me or do my fellow Americans have this annoying elitist habit of doing this to other cultures?

Sushi...is it in or out? Its not in or out...its just food that people have been eating for years.

Ninjas aren't in or out...they just are.

Not elitist. We do it to our own culture, too. For example: bell bottoms, in or out? Long John Silver's, in or out?

Sushi? Disgusting. I don't care if people have been eating it for millions of years. People eat bugs, too. I'm old enough to remember chocolate-covered grasshoppers. So that's out. The grasshoppers are out, too.

So we're equal opportunity in our short attention span.

More to the point, In OA.

If I want spy-assassin types in a western campaign, I'll make spysassins. Easy enough. But ninja-PRC type ninjas in a western campaign.. uh no. Heck I don't even like -Monks- in a western campaign that much.

Well, given that they're about as real and realistic as the Knights of the Round table, I think it's perfectly fine to debate whether some particular legend is in fashion or not...

Sushi, on the other hand... Mmm.... Suuuushi....
