Niobe's Dilemma (Manzanita Judging)

"There should be some in the stables sir, I'll go fetch them."

Troi and the group head over to the stables, but he fails to find anything substansial as far as tracks. Bernard emerges from the stables shortly thereafter with two lit lanterns, handing them to Jaan and whoever else wants one (Say so and grab it, else he'll simply put it back).

"The guard will let you back in if you return late. Take care, Earling can be as dangerous as any wilderness at night."

Troi heads towards the tree line slowly, thinking perhaps he's picked up a faint trail, and indeed, by the time he gets to the trees, he spots where it would appear the someone rode off on a horse. The tracks are old, and could be hard to follow, and no scent lingers, but they are there.

Jaan Saaresar, male human Servant of the Greenman

Jaan takes one of the profered lanterns.

"Thank you. But I don't think we will be going far, dressed like this."

- OOC -
Jaan is dressed for dinner, no armour and a only a dagger at his belt and another in his boot.

Troi nods as he spots the tracks.

"Yep, jus' like I said. Somebody hid a horse back 'ere, an' rode off... pretty old, though, an' it'll be hard ta follow 'em. No scent on 'em, either..."

He looks to the others. "Do ya wanna follow 'em now, er wait 'til later?"

Jaan Saaresar, male human Servant of the Greenman

Jaan nods in responce. Then realising its unlikely anyone saw that in the dark he adds, "Yes, lets do what we can tonight."

Switching the lantern to his left hand, Jaan lightly touches the pommel of his dagger with his right. Just to be sure.

The tracks don't go on for too long before Troi sees them meet up with several other horse tracks that seem to head away from the mannor. The smell of horse and sweaty men is strong.

Jaan
"Yes, lets do what we can tonight."

Troi nods. "A'ight, then."

As they reach the tracks, Troi kneels down and examines them, taking a deep whiff of the air.

"Looks like they were joined by a few others... hard ta count. Th' scent is strong... sweaty. I'd 'magine they were ridin' 'em pretty hard..."

[sblock=Bront]Troi will take a closer look at the tracks, trying to determine if it looks like one of them was carrying a heavier load than the others.[/sblock]

[sblock=Troi]On a second look, it appears that the others are actualy more receint tracks, perhaps within the last half an hour or so. Unfortunately, they trample the other tracks, making the old trail impossable to follow.[/sblock]

"Hmm..." Troi muses aloud as he further ponders the tracks. "Actu'lly... looks like there's a secon' set a tracks 'ere. Pretty recen', too - within th' last half-hour er so. They're coverin' up th' old tracks, though... won't be able ta track th' older ones 'til they split, I 'magine. An' we don' know which set ta follow..."

"Hmm, either that or they just connected to a fairly well-traveled path leading somewhere specific. If we knew where that somewhere was, it might point us in the direction of the kidnappers, or it could be a red herring ploy to divert attention from the true culprit."
