Niobe's Dilemma (Manzanita Judging)

Troi said:
"Actu'lly... looks like there's a secon' set a tracks 'ere. Pretty recen', too - within th' last half-hour er so. They're coverin' up th' old tracks, though... won't be able ta track th' older ones 'til they split, I 'magine. An' we don' know which set ta follow..."

"Lets at least follow them and see where they go. At least as far as the split. It may give us something to work with."

Wilhelm said:
"And we cannot stray too far. We are not fully equipped for an emergency this eve"

Jaan nods in agreement. "We should be cautious. But who knows what will happen between now and tomorrow. We should follow these while we can."

"Shall we then?"

- ooc -
Jaan has one lantern, who has the other? I imagin Troi would need it for his tracking, or someone with a lantern will have to stick close by.

Wil
"And we cannot stray too far. We are not fully equipped for an emergency this eve"

Troi shrugs at that.

Jaan
"Lets at least follow them and see where they go. At least as far as the split. It may give us something to work with."

Troi pauses for a moment.

"Well, I think I kin do somethin' ta make it go a li'l quicker, at th' least."

Now... how did that go?... hmm, right.

He kneels down and grabs a pinch of dirt, careful not to disturb the tracks. He then closes his eyes, and taps his foot in rhythm as he speaks an intonation.

"The journey of a thousand miles / begins beneath your feet." The chant is devoid of the ranger's accent, and his brow furrows as he recites it, as though the intonation were being dredged out of an old memory.

[sblock=ooc]Casting longstrider, improving movement rate to 40 feet, and therefore increasing speed while tracking to 20 feet. Effect will last two hours.[/sblock]

Troi then proceeds to follow the tracks.

Troi begins to follow the tracks, and the rest of you follow (I assume). They are quite fresh and fairly easy to see even in the dark of night.

After about 10 minutes, you spot the end of the treeline and what appears to be a road, and that seems to be where the tracks are heading.

[sblock=Wilhelm]You hear the faint patter of horses running far off to your left.[/sblock]

Jaan Saaresar, male human servant of the Greenman.

Jaan follows behind Troi, lighting the ranger's way with the lantern (assuming he needs it). Otherwise he falls back, taking up a position about 10 feet behind Troi.

If no one wants the other lantern, Jaan hands it back to Bernard before they set off.

The sound in his ears does not distract Wil's mein nor stride. He whispers quietly to his companions.

Listen DC 5
[sblock]Our quarry may be upon us. I hear sounds of horses to our left [/sblock]

"Indeed. Of course, even this trail now could not have been from the actual kidnapping because it is too recent. Still, it is good to know who uses these ways."

Troi pauses, then looks to Wil. The ranger's brow furrows in thought.

If they're on to us, they're probably going to hit us pretty quick...

"Who needs a weapon?" He asks quietly.

Jaan Saaresar, male human Servant of the Greenman

Jaan looks a Wilhelm and then in the direction he indicated, then at Troi.

"I have a couple of daggers," Jaan responds softly. "But lets make sure we look before we leap to attack."

Jaan
"I have a couple of daggers, but lets make sure we look before we leap to attack."

Troi nods. "I've got a dagger'n a shor'sword I kin give ta somebody." He says quietly, then smiles. "Good thing I decided 'gainst leavin' th' rooms without weapons, y'know?"

He pauses, in thought. "I'm gonna guess 'at I'm th' sneakiest one a our group. So I'm gonna head over there, an' see what I kin see..."

Troi proceeds to cautiously move in the direction Wil indicated, drawing his whip as he does so.

[sblock=ooc]Move Silently +10.[/sblock]
