Niobe's Dilemma (Manzanita Judging)

Jaan and Will notice that the word Canal is batted around a bit (Troi has more insight into this already), and they do note a lack of anyone other than dock workers and carts.

Lasair gathers that the Canal was built with funds from one of the older Barons who liked the land in the area, and was a boon to trading and shipping, allowing Earling to grow large dispite not having a major water body near. It is used almost entirely for goods shiping, and for the most part, barges are used to pull things down to the River Insight, a tributary to the Mystic River. Most people laugh when you ask if they've seen anything unusual, and if you ask about Niobe and her kidnapper(s), they seem much more concerned. One gentileman suggests you ask the night guard, as the docks usually close before midnight, and open again an hour before sun-up.

Wil helps Lasair, and notes that perhaps unusuall things are common at the dock, and some places like this have been known to be places where illicit business is done.

After some of the amused townsfolk go about their business, Wil speaks to his companions in private. "It would appear that this area is home to shadier activities come sundown. By the sound of them, I would not be surprised if this Night Watch is deep in unlawful actions themselves. Mayhap, they would even demand bribes for their answers. Worse yet, they might even be in league with our quarry's captors.

Nevertheless, there is little else to go on."

(OOC: Lasair's mind is boggled by unlawful and corrupt guards. They are so unusual to her, that she doesn't have a good plan--most of her people's plans dealing with someone like that involve decrying their corruption and publically humiliating them, which probably isn't a good idea)
