NJ/PA (Cherry Hill NJ/Philly PA area) LFG D&D 4e, 3.5e

SteelCoyote

First Post
Hello,

Recently relocated by my job to the Cherry Hill, NJ area (across the bridge from Philly in SW NJ).

I'm looking for a relatively mature group of players with space for 1 player.

My last group was comprised of adult gamers (most were married with kids and jobs) that ranged in age from 25-45, and I'd prefer something similar.

I'm out of college, and work around 50hrs/week, so that leaves me with Friday Night, Saturday or Sunday as the most feasible game day.

GAMES:
I'm looking to play (or would consider running if no one else will) a D&D 4e or 3.5 game in the Cherry Hill/South Jersey area, but will trek across the bridge to Philly if there's no one around on this side of things.

I'd also consider the following Alternatives to D&D:
Shadowrun 2.0, 3.0 (FASA) or 4.0 (WizKids)
Earthdawn 1.0 (FASA)
Star Wars (d20)

STYLE:
Gaming can be thought of as a continuum from Deep Immersive Storytelling (where everyone has an 18-page character history, is fanatically In-Character more than any actor on any stage, and where speaking Out Of Character gets you banished from the table) to Beer N Pretzels Hack N' Slash (where 3rd person narrative and dice-rolling interrupts your belching contest).

I prefer something in-between. I like to Roleplay my character, I do develop a history, and I enjoy seeing how characters interact more than I care for seeing which player can out-fart the rest of the table.

When I run a campaign, I tend to run a "three-tiered" game where the plot operates on three intertwined levels:
1. The overall "Uber" plotline of background events in the world.
2. The immediate plotline of the current adventure/quest.
3. The subcurrent of your character and your party's history (old foes, friends, etc).

So, even when playing, I like to find something similar, with at least some level of background.

While I tend to enjoy playing (or running) a game that's more Role Playing than mere Hack n Slash, don't get me wrong: I like to jump into combat and smack baddies, I just want there to be an underlying reason to it. I like plot-with-combat as opposed to a night of D&D Minis & beer.

Basically, I'm looking for a cinematic experience, where the emphasis is on playing your character with others doing the same, not a game that's just developing miniature combat theory.

And, I do also understand gaming is supposed to be a social activity, so I can expect there to be some of the usual sideline of BSing, relaxing, forgetting work, eating pizza and whatever else gaming is that's beyond the game itself.

Still, I like it if the focus remains on the characters as much as possible.

House Rules
If I'm running, I do use "House Rules", to modify the default game. I've modded the games' dynamics to better reflect the cinematic quality I'm after, to boost player enjoyment, and to make PCs more "heroic" than typical.

Number of Players
4-6 total, it just seems to work out well, with 5 players and the GM seemingly ideal. Bigger than that and it gets unwieldy, smaller and it can lack good RPing interaction (which 4e has been accused of as is).

If playing, I can bring myself and whatever books I have that fit the campaign (I have most 3.5 and 4e supplements, and all the core books).

Location
I'm in South Jersey, in the Cherry Hill area, but willing to drive a bit if there's a game relatively near CH.

Game Time
I work a lot, so my gaming is limited:

Friday evenings 7:30pm-?
Saturday or Sunday afternoons 1pm-10pm

Game Schedule
Weekly? Monthly? Maybe bi-weekly?

D&D, Earthdawn, and Shadowrun are my perennial favorites.

So, in closing, IF you've got a game with some space, or are looking for a game (and willing to host) and think I'd fit your game please let me know!

My girlfriend and I are looking to start up a D&D group. We live in hamilton, near trenton. We don't have time, location or gm decided yet, but if you're interested, send me an email at thebrain1693 AT hotmail DOT com.

I'm looking for three players to join a 4E campaign. I'm the DM, based in Hightstown. Game sessions will be twice a month on Saturday afternoons. E-mail me at quirkjames AT gmail DOT com.

Awesome, thanks for the replies guys.

I really can't free weekdays, I wish I could, but I work late/long hours and usually travel for work.

I could try a weekday game, when in town I sometimes have to work until 6. Add in traffic and getting food and I don't know if I could show up before 7...and really can't play past 11pm...

I'll google where Hightstown is, I'm still new to the area so most place names don't mean anything to me.

If you still need players (for any of you) I got so desperate for a game that I actually paid to start a website looking for players in the CH/Philly area.

You can find it here:
