No Multiclassing in my campaign - a problem?

To address the OP's question -- multiclassing is a fairly modular component to the game system. You can not include the option and it won't screw up balance mechanics.

Same could be true of any race or such.

But, yeah, if everyone is new to the game, it may just overly complicate it for that player.

When your second campaign rolls around, at least consider reopening it as an option if someone expresses interest -- they might like the variety (but seeing as how they are new right now _everything_ is new and shiny, so that won't be an issue for their first experience).

I dunno, multiclassing is powerful if you only take that first feat (and you build for it) or if you've got some specific build in mind.

I wouldn't ban anything from the game though - as others have said, if you're worried about your players not understanding it, why would they even ask about it?

I actually like certain multi-class combinations. However, with the errata and paragon multi-classing being the lose, I can understand how you could say 'no multiclassing at level 1.' Or even up until level 4. Just say it's complicated and has a lot of pitfalls. So, you're not strictly outlawing it, but you're helping the PCs understand that it's not really too reliable.

(Actually, in the first 4e game I ran I had 3 multiclasses who were all new to the game. One of them had played 3.5 before. The other two hadn't. But, I spent a few hours with each of them helping to develop their character and class feats/skills. If that's not a good idea for the group... shyeah...)

I don't allow multiclassing in my campaign, but I've been thinking perhaps it creates a balance problem in the long run. Any opinions?

Choices for Paragon Paths are somewhat limited without multiclassing. But I guess you have some time left, before you reach paragon tier.
