No Sallah in Indiana Jones IV?

the character of Salah had been written out of Indy 4 in favour of a younger cast."
:\ So no Harrision ford then?

Do we know when the movie has been set? Indy and his father are going to live for a very long time so this one could be set near future. If thats the case none of the previous cast other than Ford or Connery really have a place.

That's a common misconception, but it's actually not the case.

Go back and rewatch Last Crusade with careful attention to the knight's dialogue. He says that the Grail cannot cross the seal. "That is the price of immortality." Also pay attention to Donovan's boast that he'll be "toasting his own health" long after Hitler's dead.

The Grail, at least as interpreted in the movie, only conveys immortality so long as someone keeps drinking from it regularly.

Thus, neither Dr. Jones is going to live any longer than average. They don't have the Grail to keep things going.

I understood it to be as long as you stayed on the proper side of the Great Seal. Regardless, IMO, neither Jones is immortal.

On top of that Shia Lebouf aka the dude with the jew 'fro from even stevens is appearently Indy's kid. I jusdt can't see some former disney channel kid as the son of the world's most kickass archeologist.

That kid, Shia Labouf (Holes, I, Robot, and the upcoming Transformers movie) is as annoying as hell.

Thank you! I was beginning to think I was the only one that thought that. I was very disappointed to hear recently that Spielberg had taken him under the wing in an attempt to groom him into the next big thing. If true, there will be plenty of future big-money movies that I may never give a second glance. Probably my own hang-up, but I just can NOT bring myself to watch him if I have any other option.

Temple of Doom *is* a good movie. It has mine cart rollercoaster, Obi-Wan Lounge, and a nod to Harrison Ford's "scare the stormtroopers" scene in ANH.

I thought it was an awful movie! Too many action scenes that didn't know when to end (the plane is going to crash! They bail out on a liferaft! That skids over a cliff! That zooms down the rapids! Or the entire silly mine cart scene that took my suspension of disbelief, scrumpled it up and threw it over the wall). Too many derivative scenes as well (last time it was masses of snakes, this time it is masses of insects! Last time there was a strong man whom indy fights and who gets killed by machinery, this time there is a strong man whom indy fights who gets killed by machinery!).

Thank goodness Raiders3 restored my faith in the setting...

Honestly, since I see Indy 4 as ending up a huge disappointment overall, I think it's great that John Rhys Davies isn't going to be in it. He certainly deserves better.

Whether Sallah was in or out probably wouldn't have any bearing on my liking the movie; I had to think for a few minutes to even remember who Sallah was. To me, he's just not that big a part of the whole Indiana thing.

Shia will be in the sidekick role, so there's really not any room for Sallah. I'll be very interested in seeing how he does. Given his current popularity with Hollywood at the moment, he could very well push that into him being the star of his own Indiana spin-off. Or the movie could crash and burn and take him down with it, but I kinda doubt that.
