No talk about "The Batman"?

Gotta say, I've found almost nothing to like about The Batman. I don't like their reinterpretation of the villains; I don't like the animation style; I'm not even that fond of the voices.

Alfred's good, but Alfred does not a show make.

I don't mind the voices all that much, and add to the above rant that I dislike Bruces' young face, and that sums up my rant.

The problem is that Batman: TAS already showed Bats' first meeting with several of his foes (heck, the first episode was "Leather Wings", which introduced Man-Bat!). Other who got their origins during that show include Clock King, Mad Hatter, Harley Quinn, Scarecrow...

I think it is a bit too soon to put together a new Batman show, after we had Batman: TAS (in several incarnations), Batman of the Future/Batman Beyond, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, not counting the Bat-featuring episodes of Superman and Static Shock.

But I gotta say, I'd rather have the Jackie Chan animation style (and Jim Mahfood character designs) for the Teen Titans cartoon, instead of what they have.

To be honest, it seems worse than the old animated Batman series which is like 10+ years old. Much more aimed at a younger, more 'hip' crowd with a similiar, but different cast to the whole Batman bit. Then again, maybe i'm just too old (going on 34 this year.)

Bleh. One thread about this cartoon is more than it deserves IMO.

This new Batman is just a toy commercial, blatantly so. Think about it, guys:

Man-Bat menaces the streets of Gotham so The Batman must use his batwing-jetpack to do battle with him.

(figure depicted not included, toy does not actually fly)

Bane defeats The Batman in combat, so the dark knight must don his Bat-battlesuit to gain a new edge.

(batteries not included, toy contains moving parts, keep away from children ages 2 and younger)

To dissect the show as being much deeper than that is kind of like analyzing....Pokemon. This is also why all the villains have combat-upgrades. Villains that use cool weapons and can actually do stuff in a fight make better toys. Joker with kung-fu grip.

It has a nice opening theme, and some interesting visuals occassionally, but it is kid stuff. There are really no stories here.

I watched the episode with Joker and his putty weapon this morning as well as the one with Mr. Freeze on Cartoon Network tonight. While I was watching the morning episode, my mother asked "Why does Bruce Wayne look like a dimwit?" I gave her a questioning look and she then followed up with "his jaw makes him look like a dimwit." I looked back at Bruce Wayne and she is right. He doesn't seem to have the same jaw when he is in the costume.

I also noticed that the Joker does not wear footwear in this series and you can plainly see his toes. All Batman has to do to stop him is throw down some bat-tacks ;)

Oh I agree with you totally on this one... but I would like to say that it’s not as bad as some of the commercial cartoons are… I swear Yu-ge-oh is nothing more than an interactive game manual. ( Sometimes get the channel changed late or simply get distracted by the computer only to look up and see Yu-ge-oh on.)

Wow. I'm surprised at all the vitriol. Though I don't think the new show is as good as the last, I do still find it a decent show. It's only when comparing it to TAS that it falls short, IMO.

First, although The Penguin is a chub, he has often been portrayed as more than capable in fisticuffs. He's startled The Batman a few times in their confrontations with his sudden and agile moves and he is trained in the martial arts. There's nothing in the comics supporting the level of expertise this new cartoon version highlights, but it's not a terrible stretch.
I'm not saying that the Penguin, or even the Joker for that matter, isn't "more than capable in fisticuffs." But that doesn't make them Batman's--a master along the lines of Bruce Lee--equal in hand-to-hand. I can understand why they made it so: it'd make a heck of an anticlimax if half the villains Batman came up against gave up as soon as he got to them. ;)

comparing it to TAS is straight out blasphemy…

Its not even in the same ballpark, the story suck, the artwork sucks (and I’m a fan of anime), the changes they’ve made from the source martial is just downright atrocious… and that’s why I dislike the show so much. They’ve not been loyal to a single character… (With the possible exception of Alfred.)

Its just shameful…

(All the above is said in my opinion.)

About the Batman fighting power, let's not forget that the animated Batman is far from the über-martial artist he is in the comics. Even in TAS, Bats got punched and knocked by mere goons. It's just that he takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin', he has the staying power of George Foreman! Without the belly, tho. :)
