What is it with the D&D supplement books? Do they suck that bad that nobody talks about them? Why the silence?

jh
I just figured "it sucks" "no it doesn't" threads can only go so far.

I heard that "Mysteries of the Moonsea" is more of an adventure snippet book, similar to "En Route", than a regional supplement. Does it suck on this premise, or just as a regional supplement, which it really isn't in the first place? (snip)

I was fully prepared for an "adventure snippet" book and I still think, on balance (and after some careful consideration and attempts to read it through without falling asleep), that it does indeed suck. Either that or it blows chunks.

PHBII, however, was quite good. So far I don't like Hordes of the Abyss but that probably places me in a minority of one.

This means it continues the way of Shining South and Waterdeep, which both didn't really do much for me. I can't speak about recent non-regional FR books, because I didn't look at those.

I don't think you are alone on this one. I've heard quite a few grating comments. More than usual, that is ;).

Well there's certainly that too jdv. But PHB II is pretty decent IMHO.
I agree--maybe with PHB2, there's not enough to complain about.

I wonder if I"m being too cynical. :uhoh:

??? There have been a large number of threads about the PHBII. Almost all have been positive. Usually the negative comments are along the lines of "I don't have use for most of it" (compared to "Why did WotC try to get us to buy this trash", that usually come up at least once or twice no matter the product).

While I wish there had been more to it (160 pages is just too short) I wasn't that disappointed with Fiendish Codex I. I will say I had to read it twice to thoroughly enjoy it, but overall it's way better than Mysteries was/is.

I thought Shining South was alright. The problem with Waterdeep was it already had so much info done beforehand, it felt like it was trying to cram so much into one book. The others, Power of Faerun, Lost Empires, Champions of Valor, were good but not sure I'd say that about Chanpions of Ruin. Serpent Kingdoms...eh.

jdv,

No I think we're all being duped on some level about some things and not about others.

Gly,

Hey I liked it! :p :)

Maybe, I should look into Power of Faerun then. At least if it's about more than just high level play, which I don't really need. This "Champions of Ruin" and "Champions of Valor" thing evokes the bad taste of BoVD/BoED in me, that's why I skip those.

I didn't like Shining South because I found it touched on many things that felt disjointed. Plus, I thought it pretty much took the fantastic out of Halruaa, even despite that silly picture of Westminster in the skies.

I should probably not comment on books as FC1, because I don't have any fascination for demons and devils. I use them only in pre-fabricated adventures..
