Nobody talking about PHBII or other supplements?

Dude, I could've sworn I saw a Complete Divine thread less than a month ago in Rules, complaining about how overpowered some PrC was.
Well, there are regularly threads on various books reappearing. The point is the number of posts on something when it comes out.

I still see posts appearing about the early Freeport books, that doesn't mean we were inundated with them.

I'd like to point out that there's a Vow of Poverty thread on the first page of General right now. How's that for staying power? In comparison, I think PHB2 has kind of petered out.

Sadly, the fact that there are many, many people using PHB2 in their games rather than talking about it doesn't count for whether it's a good book or not. Being controversial counts for more. Weird.

When I see Clark Peterson posting about how great Affiliations (in PH2) are, then I think that a book has done something right. :)

Cheers!

There's been lots of chatter about the PHB2, enough to make me get off my butt and buy it -- and I'm glad I did. It's the best book from WotC I've bought in 2 years, hands down.

I agree--maybe with PHB2, there's not enough to complain about.

I wonder if I"m being too cynical. :uhoh:

Don't think you are. PHB II is a well put together set of options which everyone can understand, hence little discussion. The only really controversial bits are the knight's tauntability and the character rebuilding chapter.

Edit: tauntability should be taunt ability. I've left it in because it's a pretty funny typo.

It does seem slow, at least now. It used to even have steady traffic late night (here on the U.S. East Coast), but it's just dribbles and drabs.

I can see all sorts of speculation as to why, but summer vacation would be where I place much of the blame.

Well, I know that I slowed down coming here before the crash because of:
  • The barrage of 4e speculation threads
  • The C&C and True20 pimping (I think C&C pimping has become more incessant than KoK pimping back in the day).
  • The "sense of wonder" and associated other "my home game isn't fun and I'm going to blame it on the system" threads.

The crash actually made me enjoy the forum more since lots of this garbage was swept away. But these type of threads are seeping back in again, and can be evidenced from Mistrums "positive spin" thread.

As for PHBII, there were a few threads and spin off threads. I offered there, and will repeat, that the classes didn't do it for me (except for the knight, which was okay but not really any better than any third party knights I have seen), but the feats filled an existing need rather well (e.g., high level combat feats) and the spells were interesting and creative. I also made good use of the quick NPC/PC section.

One player is multiclassing Duskblade into rogue, he's using Blade of blood to have his sneak attacks do +4d6 by 2nd level. (it only costs him 5 hp, but with a good con score, he thinks he can do it once per combat)

Complaints draw more threads than praise.

Also, a high level FR supplement probably doesn't sell as well as an every campaign supplement like the PH II, which is why we aren't seeing many threads on Powers of Faerun.

I found the book a mixed bag and still haven't decided if I am going to eventually pick it up.

Despite initially looking forward to the new classes, the only one that did it for me was the beguiler (and I am still not sure about it either). I also wasn't too impressed with the section on alternate class features as the only two variants that I really liked were the Druid's shapechange and the cleric's spontaneous domain casting.

On the other hand, in addition to the druid's shape change and cleric's spontaneous domain casting, I did like the spells and a good portion of the feats. I just don't know that the amount of content that I did like is worth my purchasing the book.
