Non-gaming Gamers

Sado, lots of folks game on weeknights; for instance, my game runs every other Thursday. Maybe you can form a group that meets every other Tuesday evening.

I'm in the same boat. RL responsibilities keep me from regular RPGing. I find it easier to play games with quicker setup like cards, Risk, SW miniatures, Mechwarrior, etc. Still collect, hope, plan, and scheme...

I haven't played in years. Fortunately, I live in a town with a LOT of gamers--hooking up with a group wouldn't be a problem if my work schedule (and girlfriend) didn't take up so much of my time. I'm still amassing a huge collection of books, systems, miniatures, etc. in the hope that, SOMEDAY, I'll have more time for it...

I've been mostly 'dry' for a good 7 years now - no regular game night and group since 1997. I have been lucky enough to catch a game at the odd convention or two (actually, that'd be precisely TWO conventions since 1997, now that I think of it). My sitch is mainly due to time constraints (the wife & I both work contrasting schedules) and location (Felton, Delaware, where 'gaming' is defined as 'sitting on the porch and placing bets on which skeeter hits the bug zapper first').

Lately, I've been trying to get my kids interested - they're both girls, 8 and 5, and we have 'Adventure Night' on Thursday evenings where we play Teenagers from Outer Space, Pumpkin Town, Bunnies & Burrows, and even D&D, once.

Don't know if that counts, but I do know I wouldn't mind getting back into a regular group again.

I was just wondering if there was anyone else like myself, who follow the hobby, know the system, publishers, settings, and lingo, but don't actually have a chance to play.

I was up until about 18 months ago. Now I play twice a week.

glass.

I posted just yesterday to my groups Yahoo newsgroup that I'm taking down my DM's shingle for an unknown length of time. I've only run one game since April, and that was for my 11 year old son and his friend. Because of RL issues, I've had to cancel every game I've scheduled for my group, and I don't think that's fair to them at all. This likely means the death of a 3 year old campaign, as well as the death of a side campaign I was very excited about.

I hope to be able to play in games run by members of my group, but even then that's going to be hit and miss. I feel less guilty missing a game where I'm just a player than cancelling one that 8 people have set aside time for.

Sometimes real life stinks on ice.

I'm in gaming limbo too. Stretching nearly 2 years now. Of course my situations a bit different. Since the city had literally nothing (or almost nothing) to offer me in the way of a job along the lines of the degree I got in college I've had to look elsewhere for jobs. And I don't want to start a game and get a job, and move, putting those gamers out. So I just don't game, but that'll change come the 1st of the year, as I'm moving period, even if I don't have a job (yeah, I know it's risky, but right now that risk seems nessassary). Maybe then I'll be gaming again. So thats my somewhat pitiful situation, heh.

As an Aside, most of my life is sitting on the side lines right now, as I have very few buds left in this city to do anything with (though I do chat with them via IM or email).

Well, I am on hiatus at the moment, but groups are fairly easy to find in my area. The Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill NC area has hundreds of gamers.

Have you tried finding an online game? You could get something going on OpenRPG will some people overseas who can work with your schedule due to the time difference.

I've had periods where I didn't game much. Actually, much of High School was like that. I ran Cross-Country and Track and we had our team dinners on Friday nights. With my job at the time, I just didn't have much time to play. After High School, my schedule opened up as I shifted jobs, etc. There was another time period where I was not gaming for 6 months - 1 year.

For the past few years, I have been a player in one game (weeknights) and a DM for another game (Friday nights).
