Non-gaming Gamers

Have you tried finding an online game? You could get something going on OpenRPG will some people overseas who can work with your schedule due to the time difference.

So many of us non-gaming gamers. We could be a support group :D

Yeah, I've thought about it, that's actually the reason I came to en world in the first place after a friend told me about a game he was in over here. It looks like fun, and I definitely like the ability to be more creative in writing, but I really enjoy the face-to-face gaming experience.

Well, I just got off that 11pm-7am shift (actually 11pm-11am, had to stay late today), so I'll be catching some shuteye. Later.

From 1980-87 (graduated in 84) I played almost daily.
Then went to college in fall of 87 and didnt even touch it until late 91
When I met my wife who was also a gamer.
Played up through 3E then group fell apart due to time constraints.
The last year and a half we have gamed with another couple sporadically.
My son turns six next month and loves the mini's game already so
we might start a simplified game with just the three of us for a while.
I would love to have a steady gaming time/group but for now it looks unlikely.

I haven't really played in the almost two and a half years since I graduated from undergrad. Despite there being a large gaming store population in St. Louis, it is hard finding a game unless you already know someone or have some other method of finding gamers, and sadly I don't. It doesn't help that I'm in the middle of DM burnout - DMs seem to be in much greater demand than players. But I'm still hoping....

These boards are just about the only contact I have with one of my favorite hobbies.

I was just wondering if there was anyone else like myself, who follow the hobby, know the system, publishers, settings, and lingo, but don't actually have a chance to play.

Same for me. No time, what with full-time at school, chores at home taking up the rest of my time and no actual independent transportation, I don't have the opportunity or time to game. I'd love to, though.

I haven't played in years. Fortunately, I live in a town with a LOT of gamers--hooking up with a group wouldn't be a problem if my work schedule (and girlfriend) didn't take up so much of my time. I'm still amassing a huge collection of books, systems, miniatures, etc. in the hope that, SOMEDAY, I'll have more time for it...
We often joke that we have to look for an old age home/retirement community with a decent Role-Playing Game group. Of course, senility will require us to play BD&D since that's all anyone can really remember.

I am a non gaming gamer by choice

I am not interested in any of the games that are going on the immediate area and to be honest about it I don't much like a lot of the local gamers

They aren't cass-p*** men by any mens they just have habits I don't like in their gaming styles

I actually find the posting on boards more fun these days and much less trouble

When I need a social fix I can play L5R cards, hang out at the game store or play historical minis or something

I'm about to become a non-gaming gamer. Up to now I've been relatively lucky, I've had a regular group for about 12 years. However, I just accepted a job in small town Idaho (Burley to be specific) and so I doubt my chances of locating a group are going to be good. I've already started making plans with some of my old college buddies to run a play by post game, just so I can maintain my fix.

count me among the ungaming dead... haven't been in a group since the mid-90's and 2E days. The company I was working for simply moved me around too much to get into any groups, and I just fell out of D&D.. not by choice, it just worked out that way. Now, I finally live in a town where it's likely that there are gamers, but it would be really hard to meet regularly, as my job has no standard shifts; I could literally work any shift of any day. So, I have to get my D&D vicariously on this board... :\

I have standard shifts, they just completely suck and seem designed to minimize the amount of free time I have. Especially when coupled with all the overtime I get stuck with.

LOL me too. I live through you guys.

I moved away from my group (which, being mostly military people, had already been cut in half the year before -- it was down to me and another DM when I left) whenever the last set of suppliments for PS were coming out. Since, I've only done online freeform RPing (mostly in things only slightly inspired by D&D, sometimes not at all, like superhero MUCKs), and a single stint of online 3e RP, where I DMed, on the WotC Mature Boards.

I mostly just use D&D for ideas for my own writing these days, as a result.
