Non-Stereotypical Gamers you've met

Breakstone

First Post
So although most of us are more in the "nerds" category, I've met a few gamers in my time whom I would never have suspected.

One that especially stands out was a big, black matress-delivery guy who was, not surprisingly, delivering a matress for us. He was discussing the cost with my dad, when one of the players in my group mentions "magic."

The matress-mover says, "What?" and I quickly cover with "er... um... we're uh... it's a game... we're playing..."

The matress-mover laughs and says, "My uncle helped develope D&D. I could never tell anyone on the football team I played, though."

My group and I considered inviting him to the game for a while, and we still laugh about it every once in a while.

So, how about you? Met any gamers who break the stereotype?

I'm going to steal an anecdote from Swack-Iron, since he's not here to defend himself. ;)

Apparently S-I and some buddies were having a pre-3E game breakfast at a local brunch/lunchy place around the corner from here, and were talking about what their characters where going to do in this session, blah blah blah, while the cute young Hispanic girl behind the counter took their order.

She looked up at them and said "Are you guys talking about D&D?"

Caught in the usual confronted-by-a-mundane, they smiled politely and said, um, yep, we were.

"That's cool. I'm trying to decide whether I'm going to blow the money to upgrade to 3.5 or not."

The most non-stereotypical gamer I've meet was this nerdy caucasian teenager, quite intelligent but with few social graces who liked to find better ways to make his Str 20 Half-Orc Barbarian a real killing machine....

Cause really judging from this board (and life) most stereotypical gamers are approaching middleage:D (okay over 25), have families (ie spouse and/or children) are quite intelligent and have 'some' social graces
(oh and from what I've seen/heard on this board the chicks are quite cute too:D)

As for me I'm one of only 3 Polynesian gamers I know:(...

I've never encountered non stereotypical types who were already playing (everyone in our group is at least a tad geeky outside of gaming) but I've encountered people who have come to me wanting to play (IE, they'll see me reading a book, or they'll ask what I do for fun then ask to describe it and then ask if they can join) who I never would have expected. Such as cheerleaders, jocks, etc...

I'm told I'm atypical. I don't think so. I was shocked to find out that my two of my closest female friends were into gaming. One of them is a girl from Peru is is really into hip hop and clubbing. Found out recently that she used to play D&D not that long ago. The other one is a gorgeous african american girl who is just all around the most cool human being I have ever met. She writes fantasy too.

I don't think either of them are stereotypical.

MojoGM doesn't fit the stereotype either, if the stereotype is "dorky un-attractive guys" , as he is extremely attractive and women frequently fawn over him.
