NVidia

First Post
I am trying to play (again) an older game, "Pool of Radiance, Ruins of Myth Drannor."

My private laptop is an IBM G41, 1G memory, 3.33G dual processor, 80Gig drive, with 128M NVidia video memory.

My "work" laptop is an IBM T60, 1G memory, 1.8G dual processor, 80Gig drive and NO NVidia.

The game works on the "work" computer, but not on the private one.

Is there a way to turn off the NVidia temporarily?

Go to the control panel and open up the display settings. That will give you the option to go back to non-accelerated graphics.

I've looked and I'm sorry for being dense. Can you tell me exactly which setting? I *think* that I should go to Adapter and disable the device, but I am not sure, thanks a lot

Not quite sure what HeavenShallBurn was thinking you should do, but if the accelleration is the problem then you go to Settings|Advanced|Troubleshooting (assuming XP here, and that my laptop is close to default). There is a slider to turn off acceleration.

An other issue is if the game will work at all. If I remember correctly this is the game where you start out and get all excited over a good story and D&D experience and then you meet the first combat with zombies and you can actually finish another game (like Baldurs Gate og Troment) waiting for the zombies to move veeeeeery slowly?

hoping you at least get it to run again.

Ah, yes. Found it. Thank you. I have to turn it down 3 notches (turn off 3d and direct x) but it makes the game very slow. I think that I will just play it on my work machine. That gives me 1 year, 6 months and 2 days to finish before I retire and have to turn that machine back in.

I'm guessing from the age of the game that it's probably a DOS based game. You might want to look into something called a "DOS Box" (also the name of one of the products).

It basically replicates the "DOS" environment for using older DOS programs. This may be the original product, but there are others.

MS at least used to let you download for free a program called "Virtual PC" which was a "Whole" computer kind of emulator. Not sure if they still make it available. You would need a copy of dos or windows 3.11/95 or something like that as well IIRC.

No, it is for Windows. Has a normal Windows installer. It is just when I turn off the hardware acceleration, the game slows down way too much.

Yeah sorry I just left off those steps because it seemed so obvious once you got to the right menu where to go from there. Should have been more specific. Also I generally go straight into advanced from the Display Options and Settings window.
