[NWN] EN World NWN Changes/Additions

I've been working on the economic aspect of the world.

Trading

You are now unable to sell anything worth more than 1,000 GP to the NPC merchants - Ascension is a small town, and there aren't many super-wealthy people there!

However, you are still able to sell expensive items. You can sell them to other players by using the new merchant in the Ascension Market. Simply leave your item with the merchant, specify a price, and wait for another player to buy it. You may find it worthwhile advertising your sale on the Bulletin Board in the tavern.

Note that this is also an ideal way to buy and sell houses. Simply buy (or sell) the house keys. In this way, as players get wealthier, they may purchase larger properties and sell their old homes to other players.

Random Treasure

I think I've replaced most of the random treasure with craftable natural resources now. Previously, on a walk down the road out of town, a player could find a king's ransom under various boulders and so forth - fairly silly. Now, instead of finding loads of treasure, you will find lots of craftable natural resources lying around, which you can use to make items and sell.

Note that you can sell items of 1,000 GP or less to the regular NPC merchants, but if you end up crafting magical weapons, armour and so forth, you will need to use the player merchant to sell them to other players.

Things I'm Working On...

A way to customise the interior of your house by purchasing furniture and other things. This includes both cosmetic stuff and useful stuff (forges, cows, alchemists tables etc. - all the craftable natural resource facilities) so that you don't have to wander round the whole town borrowing the facilities in the shops of various NPCs. Much better to have all the stuff you feel you're likely to use under one roof!

(I can't believe I'm saying this) then you might want to look both in the mines just to the west of town and also in the orc forest, too. Last night I cleared about 3000 gp raiding the orcs twice in 30 minutes, as opposed to clearing about 250 gp by making jewelry.

From the stuff they drop, or from stuff just lying around?

I'm not sure that's a problem - it was the stuff just littered on the ground everywhere which made me wince. Getting stuff from monsters requires risk.

Dunno. Suggestions?

Changes

The most immediate concern about the recent changes seems to be the rarity of healing potions. As a mid-level cleric, I haven't been affected as much as the others, but I haven't done as much adventuring lately either, having devoted my last two playing sessions to trying to craft something.

Now I can make a few cure light wounds (CLW) potions, with that knuckle potion recipe (the CNR recipe way is much harder and beyond my capacity at this time). But if I sell them to a regular merchant, will they disappear from their inventory? (In that case, that would mean I have to offer them through the player merchant?) And CLW potions won't be of much help to the more experienced PCs...

But perhaps there is another recipe lying around somewhere to make more potent healing potions (with a harder to find ingredient)...

I have talked about many things last night with some other players, but I feel that perhaps it would be better to discuss those points on the server, instead of posting it (which I'm not confortable doing).

These are "piles of stones" that yield goodies, and the barrels outside of the orc's lair.

I picked up a 900 gp sash of shimmering from one of them!

I have question about the CNR.

Last night, I gathered the ingredients to create an item. Under the Alchemy info, it says that whether you succeed or not, you get back your glass vial or empty flask. However, I used the two flasks I had, and didn't get them back. So I was wondering if the info is wrong or if flasks and vials are supposed to be one-shot items?

Thanks!

Would it be possible to have the Player Merchant use a normal store interface when you ask to see their goods? I think it would generate a lot more sales, since characters could browse more easily, and more than one item could be looked at at a time by several characters.

I ALSO cannot beleive that I am saying this. If the merchants are supposed to be poor, why is it that they have ginormous inventories fillied with items worth well over 100 grand? +1 stuff I can understand, but anything more than that would be unrealistic for the economic situation in Ascention. Removing/fixing this would provide a huge push towards a completely player-driven economy.

Another idea that I think would be cool. For houses, it would be neat to be able to hire minstrels to play music for you. Maybe they can sit in a little corner of the house and you pay them a set rate per week, and if you don't pay, they don't play 'till you do. :D

"I love Rock 'n' Roll! So put another gold in the minstrel, baby!" :)

Ditto about the store interface, if you can swing it. I know I've seen such on Layonara, but how they do it, I couldn't say.

Totally beyond my ability, I'm afraid. All I do is find prewritten scripts elsewhere and install them. I don't have a clue how they actually work!
