Nyambe by Atlas Games/ Anyone running it?

It is a continent in my world that is being colonized by the "eurpoeans" of my world. Basically the theme is one of conquest of paradise, and all that entails...

Pretty neat. Knid doing what was done to mesoamerica to Nyambe... which is kinda horrible actually.... but it is making for a great game of depth....

I've started running a campaign set there, however as my book is still shipping I can't tell you much about that.

The PCs are Foreign Legion types, who were magically resurrected after being killed with their entire platoon in an ambush by native lead my Enemy Missionaries. Now they're hundreds of miles from any help, the enemy is Up to Something, and they're the only ones who can stop it.

I flirted with buying it for about 2-3 months before I bit the bullet. But it's worth the money. Lot's of ideas for a different campaign setting that you just don't get in other worlds.

I'm suprised that Atlas didn't release the mods sooner than they did. I like mods... easy drop-ins that I can use right away.

Awesome book, and I'm running Dire Spirits now. The players seem to be digging it a lot -- I know I'm having a blast.

BTW, the Player's Lorebook you can download is really a very early draft. The actual Nyambe book doens't use the PHB classes (the way the Lorebook PDF does), but instead has all new classes (based on existing ideas, largely). The Lorebook is, IMO, very pale in comparison to the completed product. I don't recommend you base any judgements about Nyambe on it.

Hey, folks. Just wanted to mention that there are in fact some more Nyambe supplements in the works. The next one up later this year should be a sourcebook of Nyamban magic items (very usable for non-Nyamban campaigns as well, of course).

Wow!

Mr. Nephew-

I just put a few things together, I didn't realize that Atlas Games was actually based in the Twin Cities! This explains why I am seeing such nice stacks of Nyambe around town.

If you need local play testers or a volunteer to stuff some shipping envelopes during rough patches. My email address is in my profile. ;)

Hope you have continued good successes and reviews.

Best-

Hi,

Just thought I'd add my tuppence ha'penny.

I'm about to use some of the tribes, races and monsters in my Freeport/Greyhawk campaign as the PCs head off to the Otobo Jungle in Hepmonaland.

It's an excellent book and well worth the money.

I don't have Dire Spirits - could anyone who has got it, let me know how useful it is for additional source material. My PCs are too high level for the adventure.

Cheers

There's not much new: a magic item or two, and a low-level disease. It's not a good value if that's what you're getting it for, but it's a fun adventure to introduce the players to the world.

the problem with using it as an add on, is that the author has said on these boards that the classes are a little more powerful than the standard DnD ones, in order to comensate for various other changes.

this means that if your players go there, then it might be tough for them. i suggested that he might want to do a web enhancement for the book, with changes and he seemed keen, but never heard anything else about it. He used to hang out here, but I haven't seen him around for ages.

What, because they get that BAB based dodge feat for free? They don't have real armor there so it's not that big of a deal IMO and they should interact with normal PCs fine balance-wise.

The rogues have more of a fighter like flexibility in their class powers, but I think that is a good thing.
