[OC8] Issue #1: Opening Day

Brandon shrugged at the question, "Don't really know for sure, but I thought Doc said there might be six or seven. Nice to meet you."

Brandon settles down a chair away from Bruce and plops the black duffle bag beside the chair. Remembering the lessons the Doc had taught him, Brandon took a few slow deep breaths . . . and the temperature returned to normal.

Leaning back in the chair, Brandon mentions, "By the way, my tag name is Phoenix. I saw the green (motioning to Bruce's hair) and thought it might be better to be safe. Sometimes when I get excited or angry, I radiate a little heat. I haven't hurt anyone with it, but I'm trying to make sure there isn't a first time."

"So what's your thing, Bruce?"

OOC: Great stuff so far, guys! I may be getting a friend to take Reaper's spot, since Reaper backed out. My friend isn't an ENWorld member yet, but he's a huge comic fan and was very interested in the game. In the meantime, get to know each other, and when ready, I'll get you your briefing.

"No thanks, Doc, I think I'll pass the chair."

So... a bookworm, hippy, pyromaniac and a college girl. Whippee.
Jonathan crossed his arms lightly across his chest, a smirk forming on his lips.

"Its ... kinda hard to explain. Long story ya know? But then I guess all of our story's are long eh?"

Bruce's cheeks begin to flush a strange green color as he becomes somewhat embarrassed.

"Anyway, I'm uh ... I guess you could say that I'm part plant. I haven't really gotten used to it myself. I still sometimes wake up with cravings for a juicy hamburger ya know? Can't stand the stuff now, of course. Doesn't sit right with the chlorophyll I guess."

Smiling at his own joke, Bruce glances over as Speedy turns down Dr. Harrison's offer.

I'd probably be grumpy too if I had to run around encased in metal, he silents thinks to himself.

"That's pretty cool, man. Guess I was right about the fire thing, then. You could say I'm part fire, I guess." Brandon says as he also leans too farin the chair.

A half-chuckle begins his talking again. "Been training for a while to control it and put myself to good use. And, I have to wear this gear to help contain it . . ." Brandon says as he lifts his jesey a bit. Underneath, a glimpse of a supple, almost metallic fabric covering part of his chest is seen. Brandon puts his cut-off jersey back down, lost in the thoughts of what happened to him and how his life has been changed.

Brandon shakes off the deep thoughts and asks, "Hey, Doc. We got anyone else showing up? Are we supposed to be in costume for this?"

Anh slid into the closest seat she could to Dr. Harrison. Oh he was just dreamy! Managing to tear her eyes away from her professor He was even better looking in person than in his publicity pictures she glanced at the other members that were assembled.

It was definitely an eclectic team. She wondered what everyone did and what brought them here. Finding her voice, which was easy to do when she wasn't staring at Dr. Harrison like some lovestruck puppy, Anh spoke up. "I'm Anh Nguyen...I'm...uh...the new Lady Dragon."

Sadness gripped her for a moment. Her mom had only just died a few weeks ago. She didn't want to be the new Lady Dragon and she didn't want to begin a life she always resented that her parents had.

"Suit yourself," Dr. Harrison replied to Speedy with a smile. "And speaking of which, it'd be great to see how your armor works sometime. I'm curious as to how they've solved the power source problems, not to mention what kind of redundancy and ruggedness they've managed to work into the circuits."

"Hey, Doc. We got anyone else showing up? Are we supposed to be in costume for this?"

"Well Brandon," the professor begins, scratching his beard again, "there's at least one more: En-ee-one, spelled out with letters and the number one. You might have heard of him. Besides that, they told me there might be one or two others. Apparently things haven't even been finalized at this late date. I'm still not too keen about working for corporations, but I'd expected they'd be a little more organized than this.

"As for costumes, I guess that's up to you. Don't our employers already know your identity, though?"

"I'm Anh Nguyen...I'm...uh...the new Lady Dragon."

"I'm sure you'll do the tradition proud, Miss Nguyen," Dr. Harrison assured with a smile. "Starting out can be difficult and frightening, as I'm sure Brandon can tell you. But you'll make it through, I'm sure."

"We'll see about that, Doc."
"I'm Anh Nguyen...I'm...uh...the new Lady Dragon."
Speedu comes over to Anh and looks at her from a couple of perspectives, as if evaluating something.
"Uh... aren't dragons supposed to be scary or something... You're not really impressive on that front, altho I might just see how you got your spot in the group."
He runs his gaze up and down Anh once more and smiles mischievously.

"Hold on a sec, there Speed-o. I don't like what you're implying, and I definitely don't like your disrespect to the Lady." The temperature rises around Brandon as he gets up from his chair, flames start licking from around his eyes. Leaning into the table, Brandon continues, "You want scary, I'm sure I can give you scary!"

"Careful there, Brandon," Dr. Harrison says calmly, still smiling and now pointing to where Brandon is touching the table. "I think they built extra strength into the furniture, but I'm pretty sure it will still burn. I'm sure Speedy is sorry for any insult he didn't mean to imply, right Speedy?" The professor turns his friendly gaze to the armored man.
