"Perhaps I could answer that," came a crisp voice. As your heads turned, you saw an older man, looking perhaps 50ish but still in very good shape, with blond hair and blue eyes standing in the doorway, dressed in Dockers and a shirt and tie.
"Lt. Roger Stevens, US Army Retired," he said by way of introduction, "but you're probably more likely to recognize the name Lt. Liberty."
Lt. Liberty! He was one of the first known superheros, created by the government during World War II, and had been a founding member and field commander of the federal government's official super team, the Freedom League, after that. Everyone had heard of Lt. Liberty's exploits growing up. He'd retired from active duty in the mid-90's, and had kept a low profile since. The man must be in his 80's by now!
"You can all stop staring, folks," Stevens said with a smile. "I've been brought on to help you kids out behind the scenes and give you advice as needed. I'll just be staying back at HQ. It's time to let the next generation take up the fight."
Sitting down at the head of the table, he continued. "As for your first mission, I hope you all like baseball."
