Oh no, I lost my Bolt of Glory

Hey all,

We often play against evil outsiders in our games these days, and my newly favorite spell became Bolt Of Glory (Empowered). Mucho Damage! But...one hick. We realized that the [good] classification was a problem because we are Evil.

It was a pretty big "gun" spell for my 6th level. Now i gotta find a replacement...and i can't seem to find anything as "ouch".

Any suggestions?

If you're evil, why are you fighting evil outsiders? if it's a Law-Chaos conflict you could ask your DM to homebrew a Lawful (or Chaotic) version of the spell.
To get any more ideas, I need to find out more about your character. I take it he's a Cleric, but of which deity? If it's an evil deity, you're a bit stuck, but it the deity's neutral (or you don't have one) you can have your Cleric be neutral and keep casting it.

Personally, I'm kinda curious how he was ever able to cast it in the first place. It's only available via two routes:

Exalted Arcanist, which is an Exalted PRC, so that's out with an evil character.
The Glory Domain, a domain only available through Good deities (and even then there's only like 5 that have said domain), and Clerics cannot be more than one step from their Deity's alignment, which means he cannot be Evil.

My diety is Mask btw.
Thought bolt of glory was this:
Bolt of Glory
Evocation [Good]

Level: 6
Components: v,s,f,df
Casting Time: 1a
Range: Close (70')
Duration: Inst.
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: Yes
Reference: Spell Compendium, pg. 35

Ranged touch; ray deals positive energy damage (7d6 or 15d6; see text.)
?

I don't know how to make it homebrew [evil] however...this is mostly due to the recent change of alignment. We still fight alot more evil guys than good guys (we are clearing them out one by one...lol!).

any suggestions?

I agree with that theory and it should be easy enough to impliment. However, we were neutral/good (party) but recently changed to evil through a series of events. We are still going up against alot of "bad" guys and only starting to go against good guys :) Since bolt of glory is such a bang for the buck spell, it is a shame to lose it against the bad guys (especially evil outsiders).

thats why i'm looking for a replacement spell that could hurt bad guys pretty well also. No saving through and only SR made it really good imho.

Thanks,
Al

Losing access to great good spells is one of the mechanical repercussions of becoming evil.

It could serve as mechanical motivation to seek Atonement and restore your original alignment.

Otherwise, you now have some new, evil spell options (Wave of Grief, undead creation, summons, etc). You could also use the spell research rules to create an evil variant of Bolt of Glory which would likely deal negative energy damage with an evil descriptor.

Bolt of glory has been revised in the Spell Compendium. I can't reproduce the entire spell here, but the major changes are the classes available (it now reads "Cleric 6, Glory 6"), and it's a close-range ray. Against creatures native to the Negative Energy Plane, evil outsiders, and undead of any sort, it deals 1d12 per caster level (max 15d12). Good outsiders and natives of the Positive Energy Plane are unaffected, and everything else takes 1d12 per two caster levels (max 7d12). SR applies, but there is no save.

Vicious.

This spell has been utterly devastating in my Age of Worms campaign, where undead and evil outsiders feature heavily. Combine that with a wizard who aims 38-die disintegrate spells at undead (which typically have very weak Fortitude saves), and most undead encounters don't take very long (though they did have a little trouble with the boneyard, and Dragotha is going to have defenses against those sorts of attacks).
