Older D&D miniatures

Some miniatures I painted few years back.
Been trying to work with digital camera to get good photos of recent ones, but find that difficult to get good results :(
Mostly Ral Partha and Grenadier miniatures here. *sigh* I miss Grenadier.

Spread out over several pages on me site.

awesome paint jobs! I love the cloak on the first figure.

You can still find Grenadiers around online every now & then. Also, check out the "Metal Majik" figs from Dark Ages (http://www.dragglestown.com). They're re-issues of an older line from the German company Discount Hobby. They are similar in the "old school" 25mm design.

Here's an elf I painted from that line for a Basic D&D campaign (thumbnail links to larger images):

Woot! Now I *have* those, they aren't on my sight I don't think, but they painted up beautifully, amazing for ogres, cna't recommend them enough.
Got a lot of that company's stuff years ago.
Really greatful for that link :)

I have *tons* of older minis lying around unpainted or stripped form older paint jobs. One thing I love about acrylics is that it is *so* much easier to clean them. So you can re-do an old, good figure once more.

What paints do you use?
I usually use Games workshop stuff, and use a lot of washes. Also used to use artists ink for washes before GW brought them out, there was aan "Earth Brown" brown ink that was perfect for shading.

You are most welcome. :)

I use Vallejo's "Game Color" line. I prime with Citadel's black spray and I also have some Citadel (GW) inks that I use as well.

If you like the older sculpts, check out www.ironwindmetals.com as well. They are re-casting the Ral Partha classics. :)

EDIT: Nice ogre in the link, btw. Giant-wise, I currently have 3 ogre minis, a yeti & a hill giant to paint right now, so I better hold off on any more for the time being.

You're from Scotland? Way cool. Whereabouts are you? My wife & I took a three-week trip to Scotland a couple years ago and roamed through most of the place.

Kengar,

Ah I tried black undercoating but find it dulls too much really, miles preffer white, though black undercoat can be good for "grimy" creatures :)

From near Glasgow, myself. Lots to enjoy over here, especially if you like fantasy!

I prefer muted color schemes to the bolder, high-contrast paint jobs that you sometimes see, so I haven't really had a lot of trouble with black. Vallejo covers extremely well too. I do sometimes prime with white, but black is my default.

Fortunately, my wife & I dodged the worst of the midges (we were there in June). We started in Edinburgh and worked our way via train up teh east coast (through Perth & Aberdeen, etc.) to Inverness. Then we spent 5 days in Orkney and came back down to Skye. From there we stayed in Oban then Islay and finished up in Glasgow. It was a blast and I can't wait to go back. :)
