One more hint about gnolls on PHB3?

Today's "More toys for assassins" article presents Maw of the Hungry Killer, a feat for a Gnoll Assassin...

I thought Gnoll as a player race was just a hoax, or Wotc toying us, after the long speech against the use of Githyankis, for being an "evil" race... I don't know why marauder Gnolls would be different.

Unless they're going to pull something like Wow's Darkspear Trolls (a non savage tribe)... but that would also work for Githyankis, who are cooler, IMO.

I'm disappointed... =/

The Gnoll already is a player race, from Dragon--exactly like Shadar-kai. That article mentioned that some tribes were more peaceful and focused on the primal spirits, as well as gnolls that leave their feral tribes and try to become part of civilization.

I'm not seeing anything to support the idea of their reprinting in PHB3 here.

EDIT: Also, Gnolls are much cooler than Githyanki. So there!

Peaceful, primal gnolls come to us via the Red Steel setting (from Mystara) where they were natives to El Grande Carrascal.

The gnoll feat doesn't really make any sense and the changeling feat sucks (actually there racial feats are the worst, even worse than the barely supported Minotaurs and other DDI only races)

I think the gnoll feat is kinda cool, giving you a bit of the Barbarian (THP after bringing an enemy down, moving around for free). What doesn't make sense?

Yeah, though, the non-PHB races get much less feat love in general. That's uncontested.

I'm pretty sure the gnolls as PCs article from Dragon predates the "no githyanki" speech, too.

I love gnolls myself (though more the unaligned primal version than the demon-worshippers), because I can draw on hyena lore to flesh them out. Or swipe some tribal cultures such as from Africa, or plug them into pseudo-Egyptian or pseudo-Arabian games and watch how much better they fit than many other races. They feel right to me because they pass the "can they have multiple cultures and still be distinct?" test.

I've never been into githyanki myself. What is it about them that you'd like to see as a player race? I'm not sure what I'd do with them starting out at level 1 in a village-sized point of light somewhere on the frontier, whereas I have piles of ideas for gnolls in that setting.

I don't know about the gnoll being in the PHB3, but WotC finally fixed what I think is among their coolest racial feats...you can now enchant your claws if you take the gnoll claw fighter feat.

I'd rather have hobgoblins before githyanki, with them being so prevalent and sociable in Eberron.
