D&D 5E [OOC] A Light Hearted Princes of Elemental Evil Hack and Slash

I like it for this particular game because of the size, composition, and posting tendencies of our party. That's with respect to Dent only, of course. I think the group init probably works less well for other, but for Dent it's fine. Outside of this game, I don't care for group init. I use individual init in my PbP games.

There's no perfect system for PbP init, me thinks.

Dude, whatever makes your job easier. I don't really care for it, personally, but it isn't a big deal. In the game I'm about to start, I'm using the simplified initiative system where it's just a passive Dex check. We'll see how that goes. It may be problematic with mixed enemy groups, but should be interesting.

I never really solicited much feedback from the group on it. I have been happy, from my side of the table, in the outcome. I realize the tactical discrepancies. I just find this so much easier for me. I'm curious if anyone has more opinions. I am not using it with my face-to-face group. We just use initiative cards there.
In my Dragon Queen game, I'm trying to run using standard initiative. Combined with the vagaries of PbP posting, I think it's disenfranchised one of my low dex posters. So yeah, for forum games, I think the group initiative works a little better. Sort of just a "is it our turn? -> post" kind of simplicity.

Kobold Stew I think S28 is in a different room, isn't it? With that said, other than Damien, none of the party are susceptible to magic sleep spells, so you can pretty much drop them with impunity.

It is, but Trying to keep everyone outside of 20' has been what I've been thinking. TBH, I hadn't thought so many would be immune. I have half a mind that that's what happened to the Minotaur: it and someone on another side of a wall was put to sleep, and we'll find them eventually (or, of course, we won't).

As for group initiative:

Dude, whatever makes your job easier.
In a pbp game, this (for me) is the priority: DM comfort and ease.

See, I like the way that I perceive you doing it. People post and then you kind of weave everything together in initiative order, regardless of the order they posted in. I mean, the important thing is generally for someone to have the agency to roll. If my attack hits target X or target Y, I don't mind.

What I *really* like is that Creamsteak updates after every 1-2 characters during combat. Without that, group init is less savory.
Agree, this makes it a lot better.

I was just bringing it up because I don't think you can target a space you don't have a clear line of effect to, but it appears everything worked out anyway.

That's certainly a fair reading of the spell. I was distinguishing "a point you choose within range" from "space you can see" (and the like). But I'm fine shifting up if requested.
