I think Miko is an interesting character which enriches the story, I don't quite understand why there are so many people who apparently hate the character (I read their words, but I still don't quite understand it!)

They way she acts reminds a lot of people of players who have played their D&D characters in a similar manner to the ruination of the fun of the game for everyone involved.

The funny thing is, the same could be said for Belkar and everyone who hates his character.

The main difference between the two characters is that Belkar's annoying foibles are designed for comedic intent, whereas Miko's annoying foibles are designed for dramatic intent. Hence the clear divide between those who love Belkar/hate Miko and those who hate Belkar/love Miko... To a certain degree, it's the divide between those who read the strip mostly for comedy and those who read it mostly for the plot.

Miko is my favourite character. I don't see her not being funny as much of a weakness as, imo, no one in the strip is particularly funny. I actually like how arrogant, self-centred and self-righteous she is. Surely a deeply flawed paladin is a better character than a Galahad-like perfect hero? To me she's more interesting than Belkar who's psychopathic and nothing else. I'm enjoying her story, whether she goes blackguard, atonement or other doesn't matter.

Err... I hate both of them at this point. Miko doesn't advance the plot and isn't funny, and Belkar's a vile evil little halfling that deserves to die.

I think I read it mostly for the plot and the humour. :) Maybe that's because I like them both, however evil or nasty their personalities are and how much I'd despise them in a real game. :)
