OotS #460

I used to be one of them, until Rich gave into the Miko-haters-club with the post-inn series where he systamitically destroyed everything sympathetic about her, and then went over the top and then some with her killing Sojo.

Oh, come now...

If Rich had really given in to the Miko-haters-club, Miko would have been dead six times over by now.

I just wish that the whole Linear Guild/Nale thing would end. I don't think I can stomach another 50 strips dedicated to the concept. It's gotten tres old.

Regarding the cloaked paladin ghosts thing (I've seen two hooded ghosts): Maybe, just maybe, they are just regular, unnamed, paladins with no plot or story to figure out. What is it about a cloak/hood that means there's something special about the person in/under it?

There are two paladin ghosts with "Cyclops" visors over their eyes -- there's probably nothing special about them either.

I suppose the things that make the hooded paladin ghost(s) stick out is that (1) their identity is concealded, and (2) Soon's ghost seems to treat the one as something slightly out of the ordinary. Sure, the hooded ghost could amount to nothing, but I have strong doubts that that will be the case.

As a further point to my previous post, if (and that's a big if) the hooded ghost is Roy's spirit, then it makes the showing of Roy's body in the last frame of #460 foreshadowing, rather than just a "Roy's still dead" moment.

I took the panel showing Roy's dead body as the punchline to Miko's statement, "Once again, it appears that Greenhilt will escape the fate. . ."

As for their concealed identity: Do we know the identity of any of the non-hooded paladins? I just assume the ghost image is what the paladins looked/dressed like in life.

Considering that we saw him alive in the throne room--after Roy's death and long after Shojo's death--I'd say that's a pretty good assumption.

The most likely theories I've heard, in order, are:
(1) It's an random mook.
(2) It's Shojo's cat, Awakened and magically enlarged.
(3) It's Shojo, Roy, Roy's dad, or some other such being who would require illusion magic to explain his earlier, living, corporeal appearance in the throne room.

Edit: The Ghost of Mikos Past would be included in option 3, of course.

Notice that the cloaked/hooded ghost is missing from the latest comic (461).

I would say that means he's destroyed and gone (possibly one of the POOF!s in the 5th panel).

I guess some are going to say that means he's managed to escape and hide.

For the record, I'm not saying the hooded ghost isn't something special. I'm just saying that I don't see any evidence that he must be something special -- a cloak and hood do not always mean anything special about the wearer.

I think Miko is an interesting character which enriches the story, I don't quite understand why there are so many people who apparently hate the character (I read their words, but I still don't quite understand it!)

Cheers
