OotS #460

Ah, so it is that Miko has definitely had her psychotic break. (Isn't there a fancy name for the psychological condition where one fanatically thinks that everything one does must be the will of God? I thought there was, but I can't remember the name.)

I'm pretty sure it's different from "religion", but I don't know exactly how... ;)

Pfff, you're thinking too linearly. Miko could finish off Xykon and become the BBEG for all we know.
I doubt it.

We've had an awful lot of time to develop the audience "love/hate" relationship with Xykon and Redcloak. He's been around from nearly the beginning! It'd be highly undramatic to have one of the side characters defeat the central bad guy of the entire strip!

Edit: Oh, but I should mention that I think "Miko destroys the throne" is the actual likely outcome of all this.
Again, unlikely. Xykon would then be off to find another of the gates, and we'd go through this all over again.

No, what's going to happen (constructed from what we know so far) is that Xykon gets control of this gate, gets close to achieving his goal (power and possibly divinity), and the OotS stops him. Miko (a side NPC) gets a few appearances -- possibly as a Blackguard, definitely later redeemed -- but doesn't get to steal the stage from a resurrected Roy and the OotS.

Personally, I liked the line:

"No sign could be clearer than . . ."

I wouldn't be surprised if the 12 gods did free her - to aid the city and the gate. So, in a way, she is following their will, just not for the right reasons. Her belief that the fall of Azure City is due to the betrayal of the OotS will re-enforce her negative view of them. On the other hand, she hates Xycon (and possibly Redcloak, as he is the antithesis of the Sapphire Guard, apparently) as much as she hates the OotS: she will never join either.

I can see her aiding in the throne room, but I wonder what she will think about 'ghost' paladins and the fact that the last living paladin is apparently frozen in the midst of attempting to destroy the Gate - the one thing they are sworn above just about all else to protect. Perhaps she will turn against the Sapphire Guard as well - seeing conspiracies where none exist so as to maintain her view of the world. I wonder what path she might take after that.

Would it sound odd for me to say that I suspect that - like Vader, etc - she will somehow redeem herself in her last moments? I can see her falling farther and farther - perhaps even eventually turning evil (and becoming a blackguard), but somehow I can see her somehow returning to the light in her final battle (although I seriously doubt she will ever side with or aid the OotS - even in her final fight).

That's the way I see it too.

How about this twist?
She isn't evil, just insane? Everyone keeps saying Blackguard like its a done deal, but Rich is too smart for that. I think he has proven a couple of times that he knows how to set things up and then yank the rug out from under the most popular theories. I would imagine that, yes, at some point there is a redemption, most likely at the expense of her life, but to fall all the way, its been done to death (pardon the pun).

Going nuts and still crusading for 'good' and 'right' ala Don Quioxte is a much better storyline for her to follow (And fairly unique as well), she can play hero without losing her hatred for the OotS and still remain Chaotic Neutral (An alignment so far ignored by nearly every poster). CN is the premier align for all those anaracy nuts out there, why back away from a fallen paladin going CN, but not quite all the way to CE?

I just don't get what Rich is doing with Miko.

She still hasn't been funny since the before the inn on the way to Azure city. And Rich still refuses to let her learn anything.

Note to Xykon: Please, please, please, PLEASE kill Miko.

Hey, if he does, maybe she'll come back as a sane ghost-thing.

Then fans and foes would both be happy.

And that, to me, says that he's got something very specific planned. It's always been the case before with his least popular storylines (i.e. Haley's gibberish).

She's Lawful Stupid. Har har har.

Seriously, she's now veered off into her own private universe. Doesn't hardly get more Chaotic than that.

Likely, she's going to be the one to destroy Soon. In her current state, she's likely to decide that the Order is corrupt (for seeking to destroy the Sapphire) and Xykon is the good guy (because he wants to protect it). One way to take this story from here is Xykon completing his plans here, moving on to the next Gate (after discovering that one just is not enough for the phenomenal cosmic power he wants to wield), and the OotS has to fight there way through his 'minion' Miko in order to get to the Sapphire.
