very strongly implied that it was something "somebody else made up."

Something somebody else made up?

Let's see... That rules out:

*Things that actually exist
*Things Rich Burlew made up

That does not rule out:

*Pretty much anything

Leaves things quite wide open, actually.

:uhoh:That would make MitD's Hello Kitty umbrella seem less non sequitur...

Speaking of which, could someone proficient with Japanese check the Go board on this strip for any characters hidden in it.

I don't speak Japanese, but I have played go before. The MitD biggest clump of pieces has what's called "two eyes" which make that position safe from capture. One eye is vulnerable but two or more is safe. This is interesting when you consider the MitD is just two eyes in black and that O'Chul takes out one of Redcloak's eyes four strips later forcing Redcloak to flee.

Any theories relating to the color of the dialog? As near as I can tell, dialog color is a function of type. Devils, for example, are always red text on black background. Undead are white text on black background. Based on this, the MiD is not any type of outsider or undead.

I don't think so. I don't think Rich made up everything that actually exists. :)

For instance I think things in the SRD/MM are all things that actually exist that were made up by somebody other than Rich.

I love how it never crosses O'Chul's mind to leave V behind. V went back for O'Chul, true, but V was invisible at the time.

O'Chul is awesome.

O'Chul doesn't know that V was going to leave without him. He was out cold while V was invisible so he didn't see V try to leave without him.

He's a paladin. Leaving V behind would not have been a good act. Wouldn't have been necessarily evil, but still not good. But yea, he is the cool kind of paladin, not the annoying kind of paladin.

At this point, Rich's "you should be able to guess what it is" is about as valid as Robert Jordan's (RIP) "it's obvious who killed Asmodean."

BTW, I think MitD's "wishful thinking" is a red herring. I'm willing to bet that the two were somehow pulled by Durkon or V's master (V's mate probably went to his master to inform him of V's soul sale and he likely took interest).

Cloister should block that.

Possible. But Belkar missed it 5 times. "0 for 5 sucker." as the roach said. If you've got a high dex, you're dodging out of the way. The creature was barely aware that it was being attacked.

If nothing else, there is the penalty for attacking into darkness (halflings don't have darkvision, so there would be a miss chance to hit the monster on top of whatever it's AC is.
