V's opp was a silent drow and then a half-elf with a clearly established gender identity.

Durkon's was a female cleric of Loki, followed by a gnomish druid.

Belkar's was a psychotic kobold, followed by the kobold's seemingly-noble and revenge-driven son.

Maybe V's opp will be tempted by the forces of good? Maybe Belkar's opp will be faking being pyschotic?

In the books, Rich has said he plotted out everything once he got past strip 100.

Wow.... that's some serious thinking ahead. I wonder if it's mostly an outline, but he only details the next 20 strips or so. There has to be some method to how he can foreshadow that far in advance.

The first appearance of the three fiends did NOT give me the impression that we were going to have a big story develop from it.

Well, My Three Fiends certainly have an interesting scheme going. They want endless destructive war on the Material Plane, and V's mass dragonslaughter certainly will help. Tiamat's mad, and their promise to kill 5 good dragons for every dragon V bumped off will probably irritate Bahamut. And they want a cranky Xykon futzing around to stir things up even more. And they're relying on the Linear Guild to cause even more problems, though we know Sabine is one of their underlings. I wonder what Nale will think when (if even) he finds out he's being used.

I think the fiends were simply surprised by how close V and O-Chul got to trashing Xykon's phylactery.

Then again, maybe they do know something we don't. It seemed a let-down, at the time, that the Snarl had no effect on the phylactery. Maybe it did, in fact, have a delayed effect that will play out in strips to come.

Don't forget that his second opponent had a name that was a thinly veiled reference to one of the two cities that was utterly destroyed by the volcano for which V's name is a thinly veiled reference.
