Opportunity Attacks

Another idea for DMs: If on a Move Action the fighter marked NPC was stopped due to a successful opportunity attack, doesn't mean it can not Charge (confined by the rules) as per their Standard Action.

Don't forget, however, that charge will be at a -2 to hit due to the mark that is now upon him.

Doesn't that assume that the fighter doesn't have something else marked? Or can the fighter mark many things just each creature can't have more than one mark? I haven't looked at this part for awhile since we haven't had a fighter in the group.

Fighters may mark anyone they attack. This includes attacks not taken on their own turn, such as opportunity attacks and Combat Challenge attacks. So in this example, the fighter marked the moving creature.

Now I'm really confused. I thought the only fighter attack that stopped movement was a Combat Challenge attack. I did not think that OA's had this effect.

Can someone with Compendium access clear this up (work - no books). I thought it was like this:

Combat Challenge (immed. interrupt): (requires target to be marked - and paraphrased) If the marked target makes an attack against someone other than the fighter or provokes an OA by movement then the fighter can use Combat Challenge to Melee Basic Attack the target and if the fighter hits then the action is interrupted. Rules governing immediate interrupts say that you can only take one per round.

OA: If (creature provokes via movement or other action) then Melee Basic Attack.

Also because of the nature of these two abilities you can only use one or the other on any given creatures turn and not both.

Compendium: One of three Class Features for the Fighter class

Effect: Whenever an enemy marked by you is adjacent to you and shifts or makes an attack that does not include you, you can make a melee basic attack against that enemy.

Combat Challenge
At-Will Martial, Weapon
Immediate Interrupt Melee
Effect: Whenever an enemy marked by you is adjacent to you and shifts or makes an attack that does not include you, you can make a melee basic attack against that enemy.

COMBAT SUPERIORITY
You gain a bonus to opportunity attacks equal to your Wisdom modifier. An enemy struck by your opportunity attack stops moving, if a move provoked the attack. If it still has actions remaining, it can use them to resume moving.

Ok...I'm just mixing up the features.

So Combat Challenge lets you get an Melee Basic Attack under (conditions) as long as you already have it marked. Being an immediate interrupt this can only be done once per round.

Combat Superiority improves your OA's with a bonus to hit and stops movement IF that is what caused the OA in the first place.

Combat Challenge and Combat Superiority do not combine as Combat Challenge is not an OA it is specifically a "Melee Basic Attack". Feats that add to OA do not improve CC for the same reason.

Correct.
