Orcus Bigiature?

I figure since the last of the epic adventure deals with fighting Orcus, I've got to wonder if they still have plans to produce that big Orcus miniature WOTC had talked about a while back.

Anyone heard anything?

Last I heard all the plans to produce it were scrapped. I'm guessing with the economy the way it is, that's doubly true now. It makes me very sad.

In general, the Icons line didn't sell well enough to stay alive. Regarding Orcus in particular, there was some discussion of it at the seminar this past Gen Con. The group was asked to raise hands if anyone was interested in a gargantuan Orcus. Most people in the room raised their hands. Then the group was asked if they'd be willing to pay what it would cost to do it well (I forget the exact figure. $80?). Hardly anyone raised their hands.

Wow. $80 bones.

Sad.

It's amazing that toys with huge amount of detail and solid paint jobs can get made for so much less.

WoTC needs to market these things as toys and forget the miniature market. Let us benefit from being bystandards not the intended audience.

Please note the question mark.

I honestly don't have the knowledge or experience to judge WotC's business practices. I like many of their products, and some I don't like. I buy the ones I like, and I don't buy the ones I don't like. That's about it.

That's what you get with economies of scale. I know everyone would hold up the McFarland dragons as an example of how much cheaper miniatures could be. However, I regularly see bunches of them in clearance bins at huge discounts at various locations. They clearly made a huge number of them.

I would shell out $80 for a well-executed gargantuan Orcus... but I expect most folks wouldn't. Too bad.

(Of course, if it looked like the Orcus on the front of the Monster Manual, I might not go for it. Uch.)

It was intended to look something like this:

I like this one MUCH better than the old Aspect figure with his unitard ;)
