Orcus question...

Anubis

First Post
I have the Orcus conversion from EN World for Orcus, but there's a problem.

Attacks: Wand of Orcus +66/+61/+56 melee (or slam +66/+61/+56 melee), tail sting +63 melee

Damage: Wand of Orcus 1d8+17 and annihilation; slam 2d6+17, tail sting 2d4+8 and poison

Unfortunately, NOTHING in the conversions explains what "annihilation" does. I assume it's an instant-kill thing, but how do I run it?

Is it the same as "Annihilating Strike" from Deities & Demigods? Is it like some spell? Please, someone tell me what it does.

Only things i remember after going thru the books that mention annihilation would be Annihilating Strike and the Sphere of Annihilation, so you might be right.

Orcus' Wand has always had the power of instant annihilation. Any living creature struck by it is instantly killed. No saving throw. Just *Poof*.

According to the 1e Monster Manual, the only things that it can't affect are beings of like status.

WOuld it be my conversion found here (http://www.enworld.org/cc/converted/outsider/demon/orcus.htm ) in the Creature Catalog?

Slight error on my part. I forgot to detail the Wand in that conversion (one of the earlier versions I did had it listed).

Try this one. Note I gave the Annihilation a Fort save because very few (if any) things in 3e are instant kills.

Wand of Orcus: Mighty Orcus wields a huge black skull-tipped rod that slays any living creature it touches if the target fails a Fortitude save (DC 40). Orcus, can at will, shut this ability off so as to allow his wand to pass into the Material Plane (and usually into the hands of one of his servants). In addition, the Wand has the following powers:

• 3/day—animate dead, desecrate, deeper darkness, fear, and unhallow.
• 2/day—blasphemy and unholy aura.

Each ability is as the spell cast by a 20th-level sorcerer (save DC 30 + spell level).

Yep, that's the Orcus I had the question about, Grazzt. Thanks for the info! (I use Orcus as my primary villain, so such things are quite useful!)

Thanks again!

Speaking of instant death annihilation, what is up with the Absorbing Shield? My DM rolled one up in our last campaign and then he looked it up and about died.
You can shield bash someone or block an attack by a weapon, or whatever and its just like touching a Sphere of Annihilation. In other words you die no save, and you'd best be on a first name basis with a god if you plan on ever coming back.
Sure it costs 50k gp, but thats a small price to every other day be able to make a touch attack that instantly kills anything with no defense.
I'm surprised more people don't use this as a smackdown.

Take a fighter with shield against anything. Fighter uses Absorbing Shield and touches target. Target dies no save, can't be raised. The end.

Seems like an item that would ruin any campaign it was in. No big bad enemies, no dragons, no anything you can get next to unless it had an AMF up or something.
